welcome to my art blog! this is an art blog of @strxberryjasmine so I can showcase my art without it getting bogged down by reblogs :)
a few things about me:
🪲 they/he
🥝 i love to yap i love to read. be prepared.
🍓 i get called a lot of names but the most common are strx/crescent/moon, honestly i don't mind whatever you use
🍀 i find bugs cool but I am afraid of them irl :(
🪲 my favorite color is green (if you can't tell)
🥝 i don't do commissions (yet?). if you look like a bot yer gettin' blocked
🍓 at the time of writing, i mostly make art of my oc world In Crystallos Abeo. Sometimes fanart. Very rarely tho. So if you came here for my oc art, then you're in the right place!
🍀 have any questions? send me asks! wanna know about my fantasy world? send me asks! wanna tell me an foreboding omen of my time of death? send me asks! (just be nice please!)
ok done yapping go look at my art now ok thank you
perfection and depression are a very tough combo to deal with but i beat those mfers UP holy shit
truthfully, i have not been liking my style for a bit. my main problem is that the lineart was too small, so i was adding details and making it "perfect". but here's the trick my mind kept putting me through: i could never go perfect. it was always the anatomy, or the lighting, or the details in the clothes, or the perspective, just, horrible horrible-ness all around.
so i did some studies! not regular art school studies, no no. Making shit un-perfect. going about and literally forcing myself to draw differently and seeing how i liked it. my first issue was anatomy, so i broke it on purpose. next was line thickness. made my shit pretty thick so i couldn't go back and add small details and waste my time. after that, lighting. still kinda battling that one but i compromised by making the easy stuff have lighting and the complex stuff not. yeah it sounds like an art sin but i really don't care at this point. not a grade, not in art class, just my own art for my own enjoyment. and perspective is it's own beast, i will just keep fighting that guy for a while.
anyways, enough about style and art rants, onto the actual art piece.
for this one i wanted something a little simple to first flex out this new artstyle with. now. brace with me now. this is the second piece of this art style! shocking! it's because the first test image i used... i didn't like it lol. I was halfway there with some of the changes, but I really wasn't done just yet. So i put it down and worked on something else (which will be posted soon!) and then came back to this, in which i really like the results. I used brighter, more saturated colors and a different marker than before, and that paired with the different type of cartoon-ish anatomy i think that worked! Anyways, old image here:
the reason why it looked kinda blurry is because i tried fixing the colors with a bit of overlay but it just made it worse :( and by the time i was ready to move on to the smoke i just gave up and stopped looking at the artwork cause i was bummed. But alas! some things are just meant to be tried more than once, amiright?
two details you might notice are different (besides the smoke) are the broomstick and the eyes in the background. I just wanted it to give more spooky vibes. And the witch vibing is not any specific character, just designed for this piece :)
why am i so simple of a creature. I cook eggs for breakfast. I find them kinda hard to flip. I draw something related to eggs and how hard they are to flip. This has happened twice and it will probably happen again as long as I cook eggs for breakfast.
anyways. onto the art now. i'm trying out some new art styles, well, more like retrying them--i'm using my old brushes to kinda get that painterly effect i did eons ago when drawing realistic shit. although i am trying to limit myself purposely here to not go too far into details because i have a problem about making this realistic. (thanks art classes! /sarcastic). Anyways. I kinda tried something new here in which after i did a quick sketch of how i wanted the photo to be painted, i did a thumbnail colored image of the sketch, then made it big and then finally painted the details. I think i really like this process! helps me plan it out and kinda forces me to be messy cause ofc, if you zoom in you'll see the fragments of a lower-quality imagine in some places. Here's that thumbnail i did,
pretty pixel-y, right? you can even see where i added details too! like the cracked egg, the slightly-better spatula, the crinkles on the paper plate, and the olive-oil spray ingredients list. (by the way, anyone else prefer olive oil spray over vegetable spray? ofc each have their own usage but for just making a pan slippery for a savory meal then i love using olive oil spray, tastes much better than vegetable oil imo.)
kinda impressed by myself on how i did those highlights and shadows. normally i struggle with that stuff cause i don't think in 3d, i think in 2d, like--i'm thinking of general blocks of shapes cut-out on a paper rather than a blob of clay, y'know?
getting out of the depression trenches by making fractals edible. yeah that's a sentence

i would do some funny drawing of me crawling out of a hole labeled "DEPRESSION" followed then promptly explaining why i haven't drawn much and you wouldn't guess what stopped me. yeah been in a rut lately, if it hasn't been obvious by my last few yaps/posts. i'm not going into details because that's just gonna get sad quickly and i want to celebrate a small win because i finally drew something! wahoo!
been also working on a new story thing based on a previous world i've made. it was about like... fantasy, but re-imagined towards where i like it, it's a whole ordeal and i might make some post explaining the lore about it but either way. this story is going to be focused about... corporate greed! pollution! cosmic horror! patterns! candy! and what happens when companies fuck around and find out!
might take me a while or it might not make it to the light of day but it has been on my mind for a while so yeah. we will see how long this interest holds to the point i am able to draw something. cause if i can draw one thing i can draw another.
alright yap done, back into the apathy hole to keep fighting my stupid brain. thanks if you read all of that.
(warning! eye strain warning on one bonus image--it will be at the very end so people can read my yap and avoid the eye strain :') )
been stuck on a bit of a creative block recently, just can't seem to draw any characters and anything i think of i'm getting that "art school perfection" thoughts-- you know the "not good enough composition", "the pose is not 100% accurate", "the colors are not cohesive enough nor contrast each other" ones that you keep getting frustrated at and have to draw all over again.
so i 1) moved to a "new" medium and 2) purposely messed things up to keep the little criticizer in my head from annoying me to death and you know what? i really like how it turned out!
i chose to do printmaking because i actually used to do printmaking in high school! I really loved that class, but it was way too fast paced to make anything really huge or beautiful--so i was stuck with making kinda mediocre linocuts and trying to work with those fast drying speedball inks lol. nothing wrong with them its just that i kinda wanted to making something bigger and with more quality ink, but just never got the time. i don't have access to a studio now either so i turned to good ol' clip studio to mimic a linocut. basically i just colored in a section and erased it! very simple lol. got a bit carried away with colors so i made another one with one color (plus a gradient, ofc). couldn't choose between which one i liked to i picked both! also the single color one kinda hurt... hence the eye strain warning. i also moved the colors ever so slightly to mimic those fucked up print jobs you were trying to rush because 19 other people in a room needed to get shit printed before tomorrow and you only had 20 minutes left lol.
i miss my wife printmaking... don't miss the rush... do miss the process tho... when i eventually get my own house my art studio is gonna get decked out with printmaking supplies
anywho. yap done. bonus picture time. thanks for reading all of that. love you.
you wouldn't eat a delicious scrambled egg kitty on a toasted bagel, would you?
yap and stuff below cut
i was eating scrambled eggs on a bagel slice this morning and the eggs kept falling onto the plate. i thought, "how devious of these scrambled eggs to avoid my mouth. what are they doing, jumping out of the way?" a thought train later i imagined the eggs as a kitty cat. and that's how i got inspiration for this piece lol.
not feeling too well lately. kinda depressed on things i want to keep private. either way, needed something nice to see. so behold the scrambled egg kitty. it has melted cheese stripes. and won't stay still on the bagel. i'd imagine if scrambled egg kitty was real then this photo would be one of a dozen of the photographer trying to not get a blurry shot.
no bonus photos tonight as i wanna play animal crossing and watch twin peaks. summer is here which means time for good wifi and catching up on popular media i missed. ok good night love you
getting inspiration is usually very hard for me. but today, it was easy: I saw a funny sign
yap and stuff below cut
i am a simple person. I see an inappropriate joke, i laugh. I saw this sign driving with my dad today and I didn't take a photo of it! it was only there for a split second, but i kept thinking about it so much I just had to draw it. I don't remember the bible quote but there was one on there, so I put an equally funny one to pair with the joke. Now here's the question: is the sign saying for the holy spirit to cum? or is the sign telling you to cum to the holy spirit?
anyways. obligatory I Mean No Harm To Any Particular Religious Group.
ok that's all for yap happy summer good luck people dealing with finals and the canvas ransomware attack love you
whoops felt the feelings a bit too much and I made rant art
yap and stuff below cut
this isn't related to the artemis 2 at all but the pictures of the moon are so lovely and lonely and it made me cry a bit so that is an inspiration
also the art gets darker the farther the farther away the camera gets. the moon actually doesn't do this and this is a symbol of my fucking bitchass attachment issues
i also wanted to add a black square as the last panel but implying the the camera, you the viewer, chose to leave is kinda mean spirited and I don't think that all people would do that. there are nice people out there as i've learnt its just. going to take me a bit to fully understand.
Dreams tend to be what you're thinking of the most. Except... why do I care about such a thing I barely remember?
yap + bonus pics below cut
YEAAHHHHH IM BACK BABEY LOOK AT MY ART 💥💥💥💥💥
i packed a bit of symbolism in this badboy! The rings on the door matching Caligo's horns, Calcite's horns being what's missing on Caligo's horns... the purple to blue gradient in the background... the books being Caligo's current thoughts... oooough i love secrets i love symbolism ooooouughhhh
making my oc go through the HORRORS because in order to have a comfort one must go through the hurt
anyways. bonus pictures.
i also was planning to draw a bonus picture of Caligo falling off a bed or something but I just didn't get to it so use your imagination <3
Oh hey look they're training- wait. what are they... GOOD HEAVENS THEY'RE BEING GAY and fighting!
yap and bonus pictures below cut
So uhhhh so and uhhhh. yeah being a little freakay in my art today. very good very swell. hope ya'll enjoyed that lmao.
Kinda inspired by a post i saw on my dash that went something like "imagining my ocs having sex" and I was like "wait i can do that? oh yeah they're my ocs ofc I can do that" and yeah. things went downhill /pos from there.
Also trying out a bit of a new style? Kinda? more like same style new brush but whateverrrr. felt fancy so i also did lighting. also dw about caligo's design it's just a different time in the plot. also sorry sword nerds /pos if i drew the position wrong i tried looking up references but I couldn't find any good ones of close up sword fighting so :( if it's weird/wrong ignore it please lol
gay people can't just say they like the other person they have to fight with swords until they make out lmao
ok anyways here's the flats (where I usually stop on art)
"The natural pools here are as gorgeous as much as they are fascinating. The bugs within the pools feed off of the magenta algae, in which the magenta algae feeds off of the bug's light and excrement, and so on and so forth... if only I could pick up one of those tiny water bugs to look closer at them!" ~ 500 flickers, bright season
bonus pictures & yap below cut
wowee if I was caligo (the purple freak) i would be so tempted to drink the water. like c'mon. that looks so scrumptious. anyways.
I chose "magenta algae" because in this world magenta, yellow, and cyan are the main colors, and since there is no daylight in caves, the algae choose to evolve into magenta to absorb the cyan/yellow light of the glowing water bugs!
and yeah. caligo is sitting on a ridge and is probably in a bit of pain but can't tell because ✨ his pain tolerance is really high ✨ (just like me fr fr)
anyways the trio has stopped for a quick break at these pools because its safe and its fun to splash around! :)
anyways bonus photos love you for opening up the read more and reading this <3
(the algae isn't on the right one because it was an in-progress pic)
