a question to anyone who has played ts2ds

i was telling a friend about all the weird glitches that can happen in game, but i can't explain one of the glitches i remember happening more than once.

i would load up a save, and the sim would somehow already be in the shower in the gymnasium the moment it loaded, with a cellphone directly outside the shower on the floor. it's not possible to save while using an object of any kind, like a bed or a shower. i haven't been able to recreate this on emulator, but im determined to prove it wasnt a false memory.

did anyone else experience save loading weirdness at any point?

UPDATE: IT WAS REAL i discovered it by accident today! it doesnt involve loading a save but rather the phonecall glitch that occurs if you dont play on a running game for more than 24 hours and then opening the game while in the shower

the sims 2 ds archival project!

good news! i managed to dump the .sav files from the copies of ts2ds we gathered from a local secondhand store over the past few years (not a huge amount, literally 6) so now i'm able to upload the data to a museum of sorts for it! it will feature the data of the sims in the save files, their art gallery stuff, custom music etc. my siblings working on figuring out how to extract the sold art data too :] we will make a neocities for bonus stat printouts and the less interesting save data info.

all of the cards we have seem to have stopped playing around 2006 at the latest, and it would be great to archive the genuine data in them! stay tuned

RE: your tags, maybe you've already figured this out since posting, but if you have a 3DS, 2DS, or DSi you can jailbreak them using the instructions on cfw.guide. I know the 3ds/2ds method comes with a "save backup" utility by default that you can use on DS games, and the save goes to the SD card. DSi seems to have some homebrew that lets you send a save over wifi to your computer, but also it hasn't been updated since 2009, so take a lick of that at your own peril. I'm sure there's something that lets you dump it to the SD card, too.

thank you so much!! i have a homebrew 3ds, i think my sister managed to dump a .sav through gm9's menu? either way, this is a useful resource for anyone wanting to try it too :3 i appreciate the help!

You should just be able to use Checkpoint, unless you uninstalled it for some reason? Icon of a blue flag on the home screen

afaik checkpoint stores saves as .txt and doesnt work with og ds games (i might be wrong, but when scanning for saves it only checks the SD card for any 3ds saves, games unlaunched at least once dont show up)

corrupted text this setting basically does nothing except mess up every string in the game. learn a new language! “smeri” means “sleep” apparently note: this corruption will not work on savestates. once you have booted it up and loaded a save manually it should be fine to savestate though. start byte: 17BA00 end byte:  194A00 corruption type: add 1 to byte corrupt every: 32nd byte

while i was trying to do the inventory underflow glitch to test something, i accidentally found a different glitch and this happened if you have a quest item in your inventory when doing the alien autopsy underflow glitch, it seems to not fully delete the quest item. this means when you open the gift screen to give it to someone it doesnt know what to do and corrupts the UI

i think the AR code to have the Alien in your friendship panel causes it to crash if you try to move it off the page

i didnt save the setting for this one but i had a save state that still did this thing

i have no idea why it was playing sounds from the alien statue in the first place bc its silent in game??? im scared

settings: none/no idea (i think i saved it at a bad time)

the save would get abt half a second into running and then freeze when it tried to update the game time to the correct one

this one causes unpredictable glitchy music to start playing (very loudly!) when you access your sims phones or the volume screen

i think that high pitched tune that keeps repeating through it is a ringtone? maybe??

you need a save state where your sim isnt on any screen like the painting one, the water gun, the phone (exiting the phone will make it freeze, clicking on it is fine) and also isnt being called by any sim i think

settings:

this one is kind of unreliable to replicate bc it only seemed to do the strange disappearing torso glitch with this specific sims save
