“I think these games are gonna be different.”
this is so foul what the fuck
Song: I Told you Things, by Gracie Abrams
HAYMITCH ABERNATHY & LENORE DOVE BAIRD
A few of the geese hiss to announce my arrival. Lenore Dove’s was the first face they saw when they hatched, and they don’t love anyone but her. But since I’ve got corn, they’ll tolerate me today. I toss it a ways away to call off her bodyguards and lean in to kiss her. Then I kiss her again. And again. And she kisses me right back. “Happy birthday,” she says when we come up for air. “Didn’t expect to see you until after.” (...) The object that slips into my palm doesn’t register at once. It’s a thin strip of metal, shaped like a C. My fingers naturally grip the curved back as I examine the colorful animals facing off at the opening. The head of a snake hisses at the beak of a long-necked bird. I flatten out my hand and see that their enameled scales and feathers travel around the piece until they merge and become indistinguishable. Two small rings are welded on, one behind each head. For a chain, maybe? “It’s beautiful,” I say. “It’s to wear, right?” “Well, you know I like my pretty with a purpose,” Lenore Dove replies cryptically, making me work it out myself. I turn it over in my hand, then grip the C again, this time covering the animal heads with my fingers. Then I see its purpose. The smooth steel edge isn’t solely decorative. “It’s a flint striker,” I conclude. —Chapter one, Sunrise on the Reaping (2025)
fear flickers across druscilla's face. "and you're headed for a bloody and agonizing death." maysilee gives a bitter laugh. "that’s right. i am. so why should i care what you say? unless i win, of course. but even then, who do you think will be more popular? the victor of the quarter quell . . . or you?" + / an independent & semi-private portrayal of maysilee donner from suzanne collins sunrise on the reaping as loved by bri. twenty1+.
Once again, the connection that Haymitch and Katniss share comes from love, from compassion, and from the fierce will to make the deaths of those they loved count. They both take love—and the loss of it—as a driving force to oppose the Capitol, because in Panem, to own your grief and let it guide you toward the right thing is rebellion. It is rebellion to acknowledge the lives that were so violently taken and to honor them by holding the Capitol accountable, by making them feel shame, by showing them that every drop of blood they spill matters.
Haymitch and Katniss are emotionally driven rebels with so much to lose, and yet they keep choosing to love, choosing to offer their lives over and over again. Katniss is really himjust luckier.
they are having a bob off
well this trailer killed me
Haymitch struggling to strike a match with the flint striker in the arena and trying different types of rocks until he finds the right one that sparks is symbolic of the rebels failed attempts to start an uprising. They keep trying until they found the right one that sparked.

THE HUNGER GAMES REAPINGS
— suzanne collins, sunrise on the reaping
i just realized “embrace the probability of your imminent death” is a wyatt callow reference
Maysilee’s final poster wasn’t her death, it was her pin being the face of the rebellion 25 years later.
peeta: breathes
katniss, internally: hm. interesting. strategic. emotionally destabilizing. soft. fluffy. uncalled for.
