i keep the letters that you wrote in a secret place.

when you two were still together, you always bought things that reminded each of you of each other. plush toys, jewelry, matching outfits, and other items. letters are also included—she loves to exchange letters with you, especially when you’re away from each other.

but now, all the things you bought for her are all meaningless. without you by her side anymore, what does these things even mean to her? these things now had no value. the urge to break them and get those things out of her sight is just… too intense. yet, she can’t. she knew your last wish for her was to take care of the things you had bought for her. she hides them in a secret place, sometimes would look at them and gradually think about how these things used to make her smile like a fool. oh, how she missed this feeling— how she missed you.

harsh are his words, yet everything from the terror in his eyes to the trembling in his hands tell you a completely different story.

“scara,” you say, slowly, steadily, despite the irratic beating of your heart. “look at me. hey, look at me.”

scaramouche scoffs, but it's a shaky thing. his hands dig into your clothes so tight they might just rip.

“i'm fine, see?” you prompt, shucking up your shirt a tad to show him the bandaged wound at your waist. “i'm fine.”

“you're a fucking idiot is what you are,” he hisses, and his eyes are electrifying with rage and fear and almost-grief. “what were you thinking?”

“i couldn't just let you get hit,” you defend yourself with a slight pout. “besides, it's not even that bad.”

“i will not die from blood loss. you will. how stupid are you?”

you huff to yourself. his worry you could handle, his insults you would not. “look, i jumped in front of you on instinct. i know you won't die, but i don't want you hurt anyway.”

“and i'm still alive,” you continue, bringing your hands firm on his shoulders. your gaze is level with his, ever so slightly defiant. “i know first aid, i know how to dodge. i'm okay. i'm not going anywhere.”

to that, he doesn't reply, but his grip on your clothes loosen. you hate the way you can feel his body shake.

your hand reaches to cup his cheek, and in a rare show of vulnerability, he lets out a shuddery breath, leaning into your touch.

“i'm not going anywhere,” you repeat, like a mantra. you're not quite sure just how much distress your injury caused him.

“repeat that stunt again, and i'll kill you myself,” he murmurs. there's no real heat to it. his eyes are half lidded, but piercing all the same. “got that?”

“sure,” you say, an easy, teasing smile growing on your face. “i wouldn't expect anything less.”
