Explanation.
A few students started acting differently in the weeks leading up to their deaths. According to those closest to them, they became withdrawn almost overnight. They stopped leaving their rooms, stopped eating regularly, barely spoke to anyone, and seemed overwhelmed by emotions no one else could understand.
Then they died.
Ace Trappola, Leona Kingscholar, and Idia Shroud each died before reaching the point of overblot. Instead of disappearing, however, the immense amount of blot already accumulated within them reacted unpredictably. Their bodies reanimated in a phenomenon later named Post-Mortem Blot Reconstitution Syndrome (PMBRS).
At first, everyone believed they had simply survived.
It didnāt take long to realize something was terribly wrong.
The reborn students constantly release microscopic blot particles into the air around them. While harmless after brief exposure, spending extended periods near them allows the particles to accumulate inside the lungs, eventually causing Secondary Blot Inhalation Syndrome (SBIS)āa progressive respiratory illness that cannot be cured, only managed.
Masks quickly became mandatory around the reborn students, and parts of Night Raven College were converted into isolation wards. With the school nurse overwhelmed and resources stretched thin, Riddle Rosehearts took charge of patient care, assisted by Ortho Shroud and volunteers from Heartslabyul and Pomefiore.
The story begins only a short time after the hospital is established.
The reborn students have already been isolated, but doctors still know very little about their condition. They believe the strange behaviors, emotional episodes, and personality changes are symptoms of the reconstitution itself, unaware that something far more disturbing lies beneath.
Meanwhile, Deuce Spade has become the first serious SBIS patient after refusing to stay away from Ace. His illness is still in its early stagesāpersistent coughing, shortness of breath, and occasional blot expulsionābut he remains stable enough to visit Ace under strict supervision.
The staff are hopeful.
They think theyāre treating a rare magical disease.
They donāt yet know that the blot isnāt just infecting the reborn students.

The first recorded reborn subject. Ace appears energetic and talkative on the surface, but his behavior is highly erratic and manic. His body constantly emits airborne blot, making prolonged contact hazardous. Though he jokes frequently and rarely appears distressed, brief moments suggest his true self occasionally resurfaces beneath the blotās influence.

Leonaās rebirth manifests as severe paranoia and hypervigilance. He dislikes being observed and reacts aggressively to unexpected attention. Large wings remain attached to his back following his rebirth, though they are incapable of flight. Compared to the other reborn subjects, he is considered more stable, likely due to previously experiencing an overblot.

Strong smells associated with living tissue and the sound of crying trigger severe distress. His younger brotherās presence consistently calms him more effectively than any treatment currently available.
