what is an animalium?

Animalium are a broad class of demi-humans representing humanoid demi-humans with animal traits, particularly animal-like ears and tails. Animalium are one of the most widely spread species of demi-human, being found all across the world.

There are no consistent traits for different animalium subspecies. Animalium typically have two sets of ears; one resembling those of other humanoids and one resembling the animal species they take their traits from. This second pair of ears grants animalium greater hearing than other humanoid species. However, that same strong sense of hearing can cause issues for animalium in urban environments. Animalium also usually have tails resembling the animal species they take their traits from. Some species also possess sharper teeth or retractable claws.

Animalium are also known to absorb personality traits commonly associated with the animals they share traits with. For example, cat animalium are often prideful or aloof, while dog animalium are often energetic and loyal. However, sociologists have disputed this being a genetic connection, instead claiming that these personality traits come from cultural perceptions which influence the respective animalium cultures. Moreover, many animalium don’t display their stereotypical personality traits, leading many to dismiss the entire idea as coincidence.
