Amanda is one of my sweetest friends from high school, who now lives in Chicago after landing her dream job. I first met Steve at the Crots Wedding and then again at the Burkett Wedding and knew immediately that these two were an incredible match. Both are hilarious, brilliant, huge baseball fans (though opposing teams) and tough as nails, which comes in handy as both are Chicago cops. When Amanda emailed about her engagement I pretty much screamed at my screen with excitement. This wedding was a dream to photograph on so many levels. Friends, music, Serbian Orthodox traditions, shots, dancing, CHICAGO, drinking, downtown, bagpipes, laughter, winter, architecture, etc. When I arrived at their home, just North of the city, the party had already started in a big Serbian Orthodox kind of way. The band was playing, the shots were pouring and family everywhere laughing and dancing in the crisp outdoor air. One of the best parts of wedding photography is learning all the different cultural influences, and lets just say that there ain't no party like a Serbian wedding!
The ceremony was just spectacular at the Old Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church. As though inside a jewel box, the church is covered in gilded ornament with vibrant, rich colors at every turn. Following the ceremony, Amanda & Steve where thrilled with the surprise ring of CPD bagpipes outside the church doors. Racing against daylight, with stops at the Lincoln Park Pavillion, Murphy's Bleachers (where they met) and the Chicago Theater before arring to the reception at Germania Place. What a crazy-beautiful day and Go Tigers!
