Walking while typing. What a dangerous combination. Kimi was heading back from a long shift, letting her feet lead her, just assuming they knew where she was going. She was so caught up in the troll she was arguing â no, debating, that sounded better â with, she hadnât even noticed how far out of her way sheâd gone until Cooper spoke. âI may or may not have gotten a little distracted walking home,â Kimi admitted, blinking the confusion out of her expression, âbut donât worry. Iâve got pepper spray, and I can kick ass if I have to.â
âOnly a little distracted?â Cooper challenged, raising an eyebrow. Sheâd managed to get herself fully into one of his fields, so he wondered what âreally distractedâ might have looked like. He shook his head, possibly trying to shake out what anxiety was left rattling around in there. âAnd I donât know how much thatâll help with some things...â Cooper wondered if he should offer her a ride home in the old truck, or if that would make him creepy. He could at least walk her to the property line, but then he might look like a dick. âI think you walked a while out of your way.â
Cindy was in her own world. Sometimes it really just took a nice run to clear her head and get into a nice little reset of things. That and with the weather being warmer she could work on a base tan at least. With no direction in particular she just run where her feet would take her. At the sound of hearing a voice other then the music in her ears she jumped. Nearly tripping over her feet. âCrap.. sorry! I was just on a run. Wasnât really going anywhere in particularâŠâ Tilting her head she looked at the hammed in his hand then the scarecrow behind him. âI thought those were only used in fall.. and saying that out loud sounds really dumb. I guess they still do their job in the summer when gardens give the most huh?âÂ
It took Cooperâs brain a moment to catch up with his ears, and then he was shaking his head in mild disbelief. Fences. He needed more fences. Still, it was obvious for now that he wasnât in any danger, so...he should at least be polite. Heâd been raised not to be rude. âTheyâre good any time thereâs birds, really,â he replied with a half shrug. âAnd itâs not dumb, not everyone knows everything about farms.â God knew he didnât, and he was in charge of one. âYou should be a little more careful, though. There can be weird stuff out here.â
Coraline liked Cooper. Sure he was a littleâŠsqueamish at times, but so was she. She appreciated his âplease donât bother meâ attitude and decided to constantly bother him when she didnât know what else to do. The farm was always a little spooky and she could understand why he was so scared when he had to deal with intruders every now and then. Still, she had been here enough for him to sort of see her coming. Then again, apparently not. âIf you hit me with that, hit me hard,â she said, staring at the hammer in his hand. âI was here to see my favorite farmer, obviously.â
The longer that his brain had to figure out that it was Coraline in front of him, the less on edge he felt. The feeling didnât fully go away, because it never did, but at least this was someone he could handle. âObviously,â he copied, sliding the hammer into his belt. âYou could have gone on to the house, you know.â The porch was small, but it was big enough to sit and wait on, and they both knew that. But he didnât press that, deciding to keep walking instead. The farm always felt a little better when someone else was there, and he knew not to complain too much.
Cooper took a step back from his handiwork, looking up at the scarecrow he'd managed to get standing again. The Old Man kept getting knocked over, and he knew it wasn't the wind, because there hadn't been any. Maybe someone had been coming in? Shuddering slightly at the thought, Cooper gave the scarecrow one last shake before picking up his hammer and starting back towards the little farmhouse. About halfway there, he heard a rustling to one side, and he turned wildly, raising the hammer up near his head. When he saw who it was, he let out a shaky sigh, and dropped his arm to his side. "Wh-what the hell are you doin' here?" he questioned, feeling like his heart was about to leave his chest.

Character Description:
Cooper could easily be described as a strange little dude. Withdrawn and usually anxious around new people, he finds it hard to find people who can put up with him long enough to befriend him. Though heâs been trying a lot harder recently to start fitting in a little more with people in town, all the weird stuff that happened to him while he was growing up still get to him. Cooper has quickly figured out that strange things donât just happen in the middle of nowhere.
Headcannons:
Cooper is very sentimental about old things that used to belong to his old parents. Itâs very common to see him in Eustaceâs old truck, even though it doesnât run very well anymore. When heâs at home, he likes to curl up in Murielâs old chair. The old farmhouse hasnât really changed very much since they passed, even down to the old family computer in the attic.
Cooper has multiple deep-seated distrusts, from barbers to doctors and even people who run hotels. He knows that they canât all be that bad, but movies and old farmhouse guests really did a number on him, though he canât always pinpoint exactly what happened to him. He figures it canât be all that bad if he canât remember why heâs scared, so heâs trying to work on getting rid of his stranger anxieties.
Cooper has always had a bit of a stuttering problem. It was never so much a speech issue as it was an anxiety issue, his mouth unable to keep up with his racing brain. The stutter tends to kick up when heâs nervous, and he barely ever trips over his words when heâs around someone heâs more comfortable with.
His favorite toy was and still is an old wooden Duncan yo-yo. Cooper keeps the yo-yo in his pocket and can be seen fiddling with it at almost any time of the day. He doesnât usually do tricks unless there are kids around, because he doesnât want to draw too much attention to himself. That, and heâs worried that heâll hit another adult with it, because he did that to Eustace once and never got to forget about it.
Cooper makes up for lack of social skills with a lot of practical skills. Heâs a decent cook (though he avoids Cajun food in general and eggplants in specific) and is pretty mechanically handy. Heâs never had to pay a repairman, even if heâs probably suffered some minor injuries because of that. Though he can fix a tractor, Cooper canât really figure out how to use social media. Itâs a give and take.
