CORALINE JONES ---> 26 --> BOOK STORE EMPLOYEE --> COOLSVILLE
Species: Human Sexuality: Unsure Pronouns: She/They Favorite Song: Hard Times by Paramore Big Three: Aries sun, Cancer moon, Aquarius rising
when coraline lived in amity park, she liked her life a lot. she had her two best friends, she had her favorite places to hang out, and she didn’t feel so...lonely. her parents were busy but that wasn’t such a big deal because she had her friends and her places and her space. moving to coolsville felt like a punishment for something she didn’t do.
the pink palace was weird. her neighbors were weird, the way it was miles away from everything that mattered was weird, and the way her parents expected her to just go with it without a fight was expected, but weird.
the first week she lived there she spent her free time exploring her new home. she listed every boring and strange nook and cranny. it wasn’t supposed to have anything good come from it, and in a way, that was true. because when she first saw that small door it gave her an eerie chill. her mother of course said she was overreacting, but still didn’t just hand her the key when they found it.
it wasn’t even a full day before the door opened on its own. coraline was awoken by the sound of mice and even though she was grossed out she followed it to the exposed door. instead of their being brick like her mom had said, there was a pathway that she could easily crawl into. and she did. only to come back to the same living room she had been in. except...something was off. as she explored her home more, she smelt food and heard her mother humming. when she went into the kitchen she was greeted by a woman who looked just like her mother but instead of her tired eyes there were black buttons. the woman claimed to be her “other mother” and asked coraline to stay for dinner. she did. and when dinner was done and she went back to bed she woke up in her normal bed.
she went back to the other world three times before everything went to shit. on the other side, her parents paid more attention to her and gave her anything she wanted. at the big age of 12 that was everything a kid could want. but on third night she was told that if she wanted to stay, she needed to sew buttons in her eyes. of course she said no and demanded to go home but when she woke up the next morning it was unusually quiet. her parents weren’t home and she was all alone. the next day they didn’t come back either. she knew this was because of the other mother and that if she wanted her life to go back to normal she would have to see her again. so she went back through the door.
her other mother was expecting her and coraline knew that things were going down. she demanded her parents back and the other mother said the only way to do that was to find them. in the process of looking for them, she discovered the souls of children who did sew buttons into their eyes were lingering there as well and she tried her hardest to save them too. in the end, she was able to do that and lock the door for good, but she knew the other mother wasn’t done finished.
the experience in the other dimension messed with coraline’s head. she was paranoid and cautious, feeling that any second her world could go back to shambles if the other mother decided she was ready for revenge. she didn’t kill the creature, so she knew there was always a chance she could be back. she spent the next handful of years keeping to herself and occasionally hanging out with wybie. wybie’s grandmother’s sister was one of the lost souls and they bonded over that.
despite how old she is, she still lives in the pink palace. her parents were retired and moved into echo creek to live a quiet life a while ago, but coraline just didn’t feel good with letting another poor family potentially falling victim to the other mother.
she hardly sleeps because she has frequent nightmares. wybie keeps telling her to talk to someone but she knows no one will understand. so she doesn’t. every now and then the souls of the children visit her in her dreams. they are safe and good now, but they warn coraline that she needs to be alert. so she stays alert.
she needs to get away from it sometimes though, hence her job at the bookstore. she likes the weird vibes from it and it does ease her troubled mind. sometimes she goes to a bar and drinks until she doesn’t dream, but she tries not to do it too much.
when it comes to dating she doesn’t even think about it. there is no way anyone would be interested in the weird paranoid girl, and even if they were coraline hardly has the energy to think about liking anyone.
she honestly just wants peace, but knows that will never happen until the bedlam is dead. she doesn’t even know how to kill the bedlam, but she knows she has to learn it somehow. so she is studying the occult and weird magic and trying to find people who could help her.
she has a black cat. his name is mango and he is her best friend aside from wybie.
she does NOT like the circus much these days. it brings up some bad memories.
music helps her relax and she can’t sing for shit but she will have her headphones in 80% of the time when she is out and about.
will add more :)
