The last time she had shot a gun, Milla wasn’t pleased with how it had gone and wanted to practice more. She wanted to get as best as she possibly could. Perhaps it was that her focus hadn’t been there the way she’d intended. But today was a new day and she had the opportunity to practice. Milla was never going to take advantage of a moment ever again because she knew there would always be a chance to get better and improve herself. If she wanted to become one of the best agents she could, she knew she had to try her best with all the free time she had.

As she headed in, she watched as someone stood there, aiming at the target. Milla grabbed her safety goggles and headphones, resting them around her neck. A smile grew across her face as she noticed where the girl had hit the target. When she spoke, Milla gave her a little wave and kept that smile on her face. “No, no, it is quite alright. No need to leave. We can practice together. I do not mind. Do you?”

From over her shoulder, Eve recognised one of the other recruits as she lowered her gun. Offering the other woman a tentative smile, she lowered her gun and gave her a nod. “Alright,” Eve said softly “If you’re sure,” She didn’t want to interrupt other’s time on the range, even if she did want to practise. She didn’t necessarily need it, Eve just wanted to be perfect. The brunette was well aware that some people preferred solitude when they practised and that was fine with her, but she wasn’t above practising with somebody either. Eventually she’d have to work with people on the field.

But she recognised the other recruit and she was sure that she could remember her name! “Milla?” Eve asked after a pause, as she thought to herself. “That’s your name isn’t it?” If not, something definitely beginning with an M, she was good with names after all. Curse of having a great memory. “Eve,” she said by way of introduction “I think I recognised you from some of the practise sessions,”

Now you’re being ridiculous. Of course you have to pronounce the k, just… not as much as she does. It’s practically its own syllable the way she says it. I hate it. I hate everything about her. Ugh.

I think so? I can’t remember the things that made me happy so there’s nothing to compare it with really. It’s a job, it keeps me busy - that’s nice.

Sub-Op: Smokescreen [Sera & Eve]

Her first mission, officially.

Honestly, Eve was a little surprised that they were sending her out before the six month mark. But she didn’t want to question it, especially since it was an intelligence operation - something that she felt more at ease with. That and they weren’t exactly throwing her in on her own, she had an older agent with her - one of her tutors in fact. So it wasn't exactly as though she was going to be alone in all of this. Still Eve felt nervous and she was fidgeting a little as she stared out of the window of the aircraft - watching as their landing spot came into view.

She'd never visited India before, that was exciting? Though, there were more important things than trying really not hard to fangirl over the Taj Mahal. She had a job to do, as Eve kept reminding herself. She was still quiet as the plane descended, not saying a word as she tried to focus her brain. At least flying didn't seem to phase her, Eve felt oddly calm up in the sky - even if she was a little annoyed at her ears popping. There were a few hours before the party in any case, that hopefully would give Eve a bit more time to feel settled.

The plane landed with a bit of a jolt and Eve tensed a little, before reaching down to slide her shoes back on, which she had taken off for comfort. It was midday, they had plenty of time. Eve stood up, reaching for her mission bag and finally turning her attention to Agent Duncan, giving her an expectant look. Sera was the more senior agent and she was the rookie on this mission, so honestly it was probably for the best that she took a back seat on this one and waited for instructions.

I know it’s the dumbest thing ever, but the woman in this commercial needs to stop enunciating the ‘k’ in ‘milk’ so fucking much. It drives me insane every time I hear it. I’ve started preemptively hissing at the station when it comes on.

I pronounce it with a stress on the k, should I pronounce it mil instead?

Lyndon made a face at everything she suggested. While he believed in God, he’d stopped going to church a long time ago. Had his own personal agenda with the Man upstairs. When it was finally time for him to go meet the big guy, he was going to give him his piece of mind about his brother. And board games wasn’t something Lyndon took part in anymore unless there was a physical aspect to them. Like some ultimate challenge. But none of the things she’d listed seemed appealing to him. They were too low key and he felt restless just thinking about being forced into doing them. “Wait,” he said, lifting a brow at her. “Too boring for board games?” 

He smiled when she agreed to some tips. He came over to stand next to her. He’d seen the way she’d gripped the gun, seen it loose in her hand and that wasn’t good handling. That was how misfires happened. Loose grips. It was how after a few shots, people’s hands started to sting, to swell. “You have to keep it tight,” he said. “Look at my shoulder.” He picked up a gun and aimed it down the lane towards the target, looking over his shoulder at her. “Your positioning is key or you’re going to lose your gun on a strong kickback.” 

Eve nodded, an innocent look on her face “Mhm, you’d be surprised - I make all the boring and obvious choices at scrabble,” Well one of the other recruits had pressed her into a match, even if she’d been a tiny bit competitive about the whole thing. To be fair, she was a bit surprised at her own vocabulary, she didn’t know that she knew that many words (well to be honest, Eve didn’t know much about herself at all).  “I suppose that would be less helpful in Battleship, people would be able to pick up where to hit really easily,”

The dark haired woman tilted her head to the side a little, watching him carefully and nodding seriously at his tips. “Got you,” she murmured, reaching for her own gun again, trying to copy what he’d shown as she fired off another shot in the direction of the target. “Better?”

I wouldn’t say that people intimidate me, I more admire how well they handle a weapon. It’s quite attractive as well.

Tomorrow at 2200 hours, the Prime Minister of India will be holding a banquet at the Taj Mahal. You are to infiltrate the banquet and pose as wealthy foreign socialites, interested in investing in Indian business. This may be a simple intelligence gathering Sub-Operation, but it will be difficult to get close to the people in power, so play your roles well.

Sera never treated all of the recruits equally; she had never been one to play favorites. But to say that Eve hadn’t stirred a particular interest in Sera would be a lie. Her interest in the younger woman wasn’t exactly in Eve herself, but her story, or rather, lack there of. She had to give credit where credit was due and for a woman who lost her entire memory of life before Operation Ascent but continued to persist through training was reasonably motivating. Sera could tell Eve was holding back whatever it was she wanted to say and Sera appreciated that. The recruits had to know their place in the agency’s hierarchy and Eve’s reserved behavior meant she was on the right rack so far.

Putting on her ear and eye protection, Sera continued to load another clip as Eve prepared to take another shot. “Better recruit, but still not good enough.” Was all Sera had to say as both women eyed the section of the target where the bullet passed through. “Now that you’ve corrected your breathing, make sure that you’re only pulling on the trigger with the tip of your pointer finger. This’ll also help you’re your shot group tighter. Don’t pull too hard and don’t hesitate because you know the kick back is coming.” She loaded a clip into her gun but placed it back on the table before her, suggesting that Eve apply her advice and take another shot.

Part of her wanted to point out that she had a name, well a name that she had picked, instead of 'recruit'. But Eve again opted against it, she would be in close confines with everybody on base for a reasonably long time (or so she presumed) and she'd rather not make an enemy out of anybody. Besides, it was true - she was a recruit, if a little older than most of the recruits and she did have a place in Operation Ascent's hierarchy. It happened to be lower than most people at the moment but there was nothing she could do to change that.

Except work hard.

"Right, thank you Agent Duncan," Eve noted politely, picking up her gun and trying to take in all the advice that she'd just been given by Sera. Adjusting her grip and trying not to feel tense about it, it had to feel natural - eventually handling a gun had to be as easy as breathing, even if it wasn't right now. It was necessary, she had to learn it. Keeping it all like a mantra in her head, Eve gently squeezed at the trigger - willing for there to be an improvement as the kickback came with less of a jump in her bones this time.

Lyndon gave a small laugh. His gun sat disassembled in front of him. There was no time pressure to put it back together, so he let it sit there for a moment. He could clean guns and take them apart in his sleep, he thought. Still didn’t change the fact that he didn’t use them in the field all that often. He could. He trained to make sure that if the situation called for it, he could. He’d just rarely found himself in a situation that had called for it. “Yeah? Well, what do you think we do on our days off?” he asked. 

Maybe it was a little presumptious for him to call himself a super secret government spy but it was the truth wasn’t it? He wasn’t even a year into the job, but he was fitting in. He was getting the work done. Everything they’d given him to do, he was excelling at it. He’d even skipped the entire recruitment period. Went straight to agent. How many others could really claim that? 

Confirming her name was Eve, he nodded in return when she tried to confirm his. “Yep. Lyndon Cole.” He glanced over at her again. “You want some tips?” he asked, nodding his chin towards the gun in her hands. 

Eve considered the question, partly seriously, partly not, for a moment. "I don't know, I can think of a few things," the brunette paused for a second "Church, board games - I can imagine government operatives playing scrabble," Probably resulting in a few physical altercations of course, but that was the fun in it wasn't it? "I think I'm too boring for the excitement of that, so far I've just trained or stayed in my room and read," Too boring for scrabble? Wasn't she a wild one? All purely sarcasm after all, but Eve was half convinced that she wasn't worth the excitement of that.

"Right," Eve nodded as Lyndon confirmed his name and his surname. Tips? Eve considered for a moment, tilting her head a little. Hm, trained agent - what could the harm be? "Alright then, thank you," Eve said, with one of her usual formal nods. "So what did you have in mind?" Tips were useful, after all she was trying to be the best agent she could possibly be. After all, she didn't have a life - she couldn't remember anything, what could she possibly have to lose from throwing herself into whatever the super secret government agency threw at her?

For the most part, Raina when she was around the base was a fairly amiable- a side for her that she was happy was coming out more and more since the forced separation between her and her family. But when she was n the training room it was as if she was a completely different person. She was quiet, intense and more than a few times she was sure that a few of the newer recruits thought she was going to kill them.

Even now as she quietly watched Eve come into the gun range Raina had that quiet, intense look on her face that could probably stop someone dead in their tracks. The instructor carefully watched from the sidelines as Eve fired the weapon, taking note of how she jumped back, how she held the gun, even how she breathed the moment she fired. When she was done firing, Raina stepped forward, the clack of her signatures heels signaling her approach. “Really? Eve, I think you’re forgetting that I practically live at this range.” she said, a small smirk breaking away at that fiercesome focused look on her face.

At first, Eve was sure that the look on Raina’s face would put the fear of God in her. But the small smirk on the other woman's face made her feel a little calmer, the brunette couldn't help but wonder how long the instructor had been watching her and what her thoughts were. She tensed up a little but somehow managed a smile at the other woman, "I don't know," Eve said with a little sarcastic shrug "I thought that even our types took a day off, or perhaps went to church?" Was that something that happened around these parts?

It was Sunday, but she didn't think anybody really had any specific religious affiliations.

"Were you watching me?" Eve asked, curious as she gently pulled the safety catch back into position and placed the gun back on the table. She was trying her best but it was still a little nervewracking, the thought of somebody watching her. Especially one of the instructors. "I hope I wasn't..." Eve paused, looking for the right word "Substandard." You couldn't really be mediocre, not in this field of work at least. Besides, Eve didn't really feel like the type who sat well with mediocre.

Sub Level Six was where Sera spent most of her free time. If she wasn’t training in one of the sparring rooms, then chances were she could be found occupying one of the stalls on the indoor gun range. It was mid afternoon and Sera essentially had the day off; she didn’t teach classes on Sunday’s unless a recruit had specifically requested a private session. With the intent to blow off some unwarranted steam, Sera checked out a Smith & Wesson .357 and grabbed a handful of targets to take with her.

As she entered the range, there was a disruption in her step as her eyes landed on the recruit who stood alone and to Sera’s dismay, without supervision. “You live in a quasi-military secret agency compound that not only houses its agents, but serves as a training facility, recruit. Of course someone would be coming to the range. There’s no such thing as a day off in this business.” She harped, occupying the lane next to Eve. Sera let a few seconds of silence pass as she began to load her clip and eyed Eve’s target hanging from a distance. “Don’t hold your breath when you pull the trigger.” She instructed, breaking the silence. “It really fucks up your shot group if you do.”

Eve recognised the combat instructor from numerous training sessions that she’d had over the past four months. She'd been trying hard in all of her sessions, but even Eve had to admit combat and weapons were her weakest, even if she was trying her hardest. It was frustrating knowing that she wasn't strong enough yet, but she was trying even if that wasn't enough to comfort Eve at the moment. At Sera's mini lecture, she bit her tongue as she checked her gun again - knowing that if she opened her mouth then something sarcastic was likely to come out.

Even if she was annoyed, Eve knew that she had to be polite and the instructors deserved her respect at the very least.

"Right," Eve gave a nod of acknowledgement at the older woman's advice, it seemed sound advice even if part of her baulked at the expletive. Even though Eve liked to think that she wasn't as uptight as people made her out to be, she knew that she could be a little...sometimes. Keeping Sera's advice in mind, she fired off another shot, noting with a little satisfaction that it was more on target. This time. She could only hope that it wasn't a fluke.
