If a male author writes online femdom porn under a female pen name and a reader offers to do free proofreading because they have a service kink and it turns them on to be useful to a woman in this way does the author have an obligation to turn them down because they wouldn't have made the offer if aware of all the facts?

Full disclosure: I'm a bit crap at advice because I tend not to see around the right corners. Be warned! :D

GREATER CONTEXT: If I 'zoom out' to think beyond the question, I would encourage the writer to look at their practice of publishing under a "female pen name." I am 1000% down for breaking the gender binary, but there are particular justice issues women and dominant women are battling right now. Is the writer accelerating or decelerating those issues with what they are posting in the world? THE SITUATION: If the writer asked my opinion, I would advise them to turn the reader down. Here are some of the reasons that are coming up for me right now:

Consent. The reader isn't in a place to give informed consent, even if he's making the offer.

Consent helps to protect both parties — the reader and the writer. Without a framework of consent, the give-and-take of the situation seems rife with assumptions.

Again, consent protects the writer, too. They don't know how the reader will behave in a single instance or a longer timeframe. The relationship between a writer and their copyeditor/proofreader can be very intimate, especially if the writer shares ideas and hopes for their writing.

I encourage the writer to find folks who will help them nourish their talents in non-exploitive ways that build community.

For a little more tangible advice, I also recommend Grammarly for copyediting. It won't catch everything, but it will help significantly clean up the drafts. Plus, it explains the 'why' behind the suggestions so writers can improve their skills.
