rook’s all smiles all the time. well, most of the time. still! at this very moment he is smiling and looking like he doesn’t belong in this general area at all. it’s hard not to stick out when he’s dressing in such vibrant clothes and speaking as loudly as he is. “ you, ” he points to gain the attention of who he’s made eye contact with. “ i need help. ”
this is a permanent starter call for ROOK RIVALI.
@intoxthextrees / for joel.
he’s a mess most of the time. okay maybe all the time. but some days are just a little worse than others. today he’s found himself on the streets nursing a hangover that seems to have lasted all week with his breakfast coming back up and all over this poor man’s shoes. “ oh fuck, ” he manages once he stands back to his full height. “ my bad. ”
@intoxthextrees / for thaniel.
the coven is always busy. it’s loud, it’s bright, it’s a party that never ends. sire’s always found on the balcony looking over the dance floor. a perfect view to watch people destroy their lives. but, sometimes he likes to join the party and mingle around. his hand circles around a thicker tattooed wrist and he eyes the man he’s stopped from reaching out any further. “ you don’t wanna drink that one. ”

‘ They think I will let them down because I don’t know how to fight. ’ He thinks that’s a fair enough reason for the new cut right across his brow. Yann needs to learn double-time. ‘ I’m trying to learn. I don’t think I’m cut out for it. ’
“ hm, i’d personally tell ‘em to bite me but -- ” she shrugs and it’s that kind of talk that makes people wonder how this girl comes from high blood. “ i could teach you. ” her legs swing from where she’s perched and she picks between her teeth with a fingernail. “ i’ve had such proper training after all. ”
✿ ALSO UH ALETTE FROM LUDIN
SMOOCHIN’. accepting. 4 - cheek kiss.
She has stepped up onto her tiptoes and kissed his cheek before she’s even really thought it through. It must just be the relief of it all, she thinks. It must be that they have survived yet another difficult battle and he risked his own safety to keep both her and their people safe. It must be the fact that they’ve spent much time together, and he isn’t as bad as he might seem at first. It must be.
Alette briefly looks as confused as he must feel at this display of affection, but it fades. She finds her composure again, wherever it was she’d misplaced it for those brief ten seconds. Best here to step back, she thinks.
‘ I just wanted to thank you, ’ comes an explanation. ‘ And I hope the dredge didn’t injure you too badly. ’
✿ uh for odd from rook tbh
SMOOCHIN’. accepting. 8 - first kiss.
It’s a funny thing, to be smiling so brightly when there is so little in the world at large to be smiling about. But here she is. Beaming, just about, and her only saving grace is the fact that Rook cannot see her face, cannot see the uncharacteristic giddiness that is threatening to bubble up in her chest.
This last… year, almost, she supposes… it’s been a hard one. They have lost much, and done things to survive that have left her ashamed, but Rook has made it better. Easier. And along the way, as she’s watched him lead so very well, the admiration she felt for him turned to something else. Something she had not expected to feel for anyone again after Torstein.
But it’s nice. There are so few nice things in their lives anymore.
She leads him, still, by the hand, until they are far enough from Lauga’s stone that there will be no prying eyes. It’s there that she reaches to take his face– so worn and so tired, so sad– in her hands.
Oddleif considers him for a time, and there may be much to say but she will not utter a word of it. Instead, she kisses him. She should have done it sooner, she knows, but with all the stories of the Lauga godstone, this is a fair enough time to finally let herself feel something.
So she pulls him closer to her, and tangles her fingers in that shaggy, greying hair. And she is so grateful that there are some moments of good left in the world for them after all.
worldwell:
Her mother says a lot of things, means very few. Alyssa knows she meant this, though. She had protected Carver all his life, all the way through Ostagar, all the way back to Lothering. Then when it finally mattered, she’d failed. She’s thought of nothing else since it happened, and she knows her mother’s right. It was her fault.
How nice of him, though, to say otherwise.
‘ It doesn’t matter if she meant it. ’ It does not make it less true. ‘ I must do better now. I will keep the rest of us safe until Kirkwall. I promise. That includes you and– is she your wife? ’
“ unfortunately i am not that lucky. ” he looks to oddleif and gives a shadow of a teasing smile. it’s all he can do to try and keep from being so grim. odd makes it easier. “ this is oddleif, just a good friend. ” he picks at the rations given to him. it’s not much but he knows better than to complain when he’s aboard a ship taking him to safety from the blight. “ my wife passed years ago. ”
HEY WHAT’S UP I’M A MESS OVER MY SAD DAD
worldwell:
@subtlesound.
‘ I’m so sorry, Rook, ’ she says, so very gently. The ship creaks and lurches along the waves of the Waking Sea, and Alyssa tries to be so careful with choosing her words. This is a pain she understands, though; did she not lose Carver to the same beast?
She wants to say more. She wants to say it should have been me. But what consolation is that? It should have but it wasn’t, and Leandra is not the only parent Alyssa has failed. In the end, she can’t find the words to say, and simply offers Rook his share of food, head bowed.
they share the same thought, at least. it should have been me, he thinks the moment she apologizes and if only he knew she were thinking just the same, for what does he have to live for now? it would have made so much more sense for it to have been him. she was just a girl. she had her whole life to live. he’s nothing but an old man who had a daughter to care for. now he has nothing.
he takes his food quietly, only barely glancing up to alyssa. “ i’m sorry about your brother. ” he finally gives because he knows he’s not the only one here who is grieving. “ and i’m sure your mother didn’t mean the things she said to you. ”
worldwell:
Alette doesn’t respond for a time. She has a kind heart but it is aching, hurting. She does not know if it can last through the world this one is becoming. Either it will have to change, harden, or she will not survive it. At least, that’s her fear. What can she do if she remains this soft and comes face to face with another man like Onef?
She sits up straight now and stares into the flames, not feeling their warmth. There she remains, silent, thinking, until she gets to her feet. There’s something off with her– but, then again, there has been ever since she killed Onef. She sounds distant as she speaks.
‘ We should try to sleep. ’
after watching her stand to her feet, he shifts idly in his spot, not yet ready to join her. it’s moments like these where he misses aldis most. he thinks she would know how to speak to alette better in moments like these. those sort of woman to woman talks that he never really understood. he won’t force her to open, in that he knows better. eventually, in moments that feel like minutes instead, he nods and rises to his feet with a wince. the cold weather aches his joints. “ come then. ” he brings her closer to him as he guides her back to the tent, if only to comfort her and feel more helpful.
