Ally Coalition (San Fran)

Hi guyyyyyssss!!!!

Sunday, October 16th, 2016, is the very first day of The Suburbia Tour, and we’re going to be in San Francisco :) This city has a really rad history of LGBTQ activism. Harvey Milk, the first openly gay person to be elected to public office in California, moved to San Francisco in 1972. Milk’s story is pretty incredible and inspires the LGBTQ community to this day.

As part of our work with the Ally Coalition we are going to be focusing on having an LGBTQ-inclusive curriculum in all schools. In July, the California School Board passed an unprecedented set of guidelines that will insert LGBTQ history, including the struggle for equal rights and contributions of LGBTQ history makers, into school curriculum which is a huge step forward.

I’m super excited about this and know that it will help create a more safe and inclusive environment for LGBTQ youth. We’re so thankful to have your support as we work for safe schools across the US. We’re also going to be partnering with GLSEN to make sure that you can directly reach out to the local officials in charge of crafting curriculum for your schools.

Throughout the Suburbia tour, we’re going to be taking donations for local LGBTQ youth centers. Our partner for this show is the Youth Spirit Artworks.
