I really hope that AM’s next record will do something similar to Humbug or with Nirvana’s In Utero where it just blows things out of the water for a lot of fans. I hope it segregates us. I hope it weeds out all the pretentious music listeners who only buy the record to fulfill an aesthetic. I hope AM gets incredibly mixed reviews because people are so torn. I hope their record revolutionizes the indie genre. I hope it makes people uncomfortable. I hope that when I go to their concert that I will be standing in a crowd of people who all came for the same reason. I want a new AM era where it doesn’t sound over produced and I want AM to make even themselves uncomfortable. I want the focus to finally be on the music. Not Alex’s looks, as good as they are, but because the other members especially Nick and Jamie deserve more respect and appreciation. Music is for sure about a look, but it also doesn’t mean shit if you can’t produce a sound. We know AM has the talent, and we know they have the looks, there is no proving themselves with that anymore. My point lies solely in the idea that AM has the opportunity to do something extraordinary without relying looks or accessibility. They have the crowd, they have the time, the ability, and the money to really do something that is beyond anything they have ever done before and I truly believe that.
