as a canadian, i fucking hate this. y'all don’t understand how confusing it is being a british commonwealth country in america. i don’t know how to spell fucking anything. fuck.

Only exacerbated by word programs and cell phones that red squiggle line Canadian spellings and make you second guess everything you thought you knew.
I don’t remember now what blog, but once I read a post from someone on complaining about American spelling and it was something like “Laura Secord did not walk 32km through a swamp so I spell colour without a u, like a pleb.”
And like… I think of that any time I notice any Americanization now 😂😂
As a Canadian writer, this is even worse. If you want to be published in the US, you have to use American spelling. In the UK, British. I can’t remember exactly what the case is with Canadian publishers except that if they plan on publishing your work in the US, sometimes they tell you to use American spelling since that makes things easier/cheaper on their end.
Same with editors, if they’re editing something that the publisher plans on selling in the US.
It’s a nightmare.
