Shonen and Shoujo Fix
I just finished the first episode of K and my mind was blown away. I was a bit (just a bit) turned off by the familiar ranger-team formation and choreographed drawing of swords by the Blue Brigade (Ao-something, whatever you call ‘em) but the whole anime was worth it! SHONEN, DAI SUKI DA YO!
I’ve been trying to choose between watching Mirai Nikki, Durarara! and Deadman Wonderland for my shonen dose (I just finished FMA:Brotherhood and it was freakin’ aaawesome) - I can’t get enough of shonen. I can’t get over alchemy still. Mustang is just suave. Hawkeye’s waaay cooler. Awesome how it was a lot more plot-driven than the original anime and it was more faithful to the manga (according to my brother). Tsk. I’ll probably rewatch it again for the 5th time.
Had to balance out my anime exposure with a shoujo so I googled for some good stuff - found Sukitte Ii Na Yo first. Meh. Too sappy, Tachibana-san’s too much of a downer for me, I reckon. But I get where the anime creators are going with the character’s story. And so, here comes Tonari No Kaibutsu-kun and it’s SWEET AS.
This is by far one of the best school life/rom-com series I’ve ever seen (also following the manga right now). It’s fresh, fun and far from being the ‘sappy shoujo’ a teen female-oriented series can be. My Little Monster (Tonari) follows the story of friendship and romance between Mizutani Shizuku, a study bug, and the wild child Yoshida Haru after the incident of Shizuku-san’s saving Haru-kun from his alleged friends. Tonari almost reminds me of Hana Kimi Live-Action’s plot which involves as much stories of friendship as romance in the making. You just gotta praise Robico for Tonari’s quirkiness brought by Haru and his pet Nagoya Cochin named (make a guess) Nagoya and the insightful moments of Shizuku’s realisation of her feelings towards studying and Haru. Anyway, WAAAH! I’m shipping YamakenxShizuku as I wanna see Haru grow more as an individual rather than a co-dependent half of a pairing with Shizuku-san (:
