The chalkboard behind Namjoon in the Persona mv
Did anyone noticed that on the chalkboard behind Namjoon there’s two people drawn on opposite sides? And both seem to be facing each other. Or at-least giving each other side glances.
Not only that, but the person on the right seems to have a quote by Carl Jung written on the face that says:
“I am not what happened to me
I am what I change to become.”
The quote also appears on the person on the left, but ON THE OUTSIDE, right next to the neck
And right next to the face there’s another:
“A dream is the small hidden door in the deepest and most intimate sanctum of the soul, which opens to that primeval cosmic night that was soul long before there was conscious ego and will be soul far beyond what a conscious ego.”
(NOTE: The original quote says: “The dream is the small hidden door in the deepest and most intimate sanctum of the soul, which opens to that primeval cosmic night that was soul long before there was conscious ego and will be soul far beyond what a conscious ego could ever reach.” )
Still, both quotes seem to repeat throughout the chalkboard, just like the words: DREAM.LOVE.HAPPINESS as well as PERSONA.SHADOW.EGO
If we look up more quotes by Carl Jung, particularly from the book that inspired the new series, we’ll find several that pic up the topic of the words Dream, Love, Happiness. For example:
“Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside, awakens.”
This^ one reminded me heavily of WINGS and how everyone’s solo films played out like the boys were trapped inside these dream/Limbo realms. Especially Jin who we will later come to know is the one who is living in a loop trying to save the others.
“The word “happy” would loose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness. Is it far better to take things as they come along with patience and equanimity.”
This^ one reminds me of what happened during the Highlight Reels, followed by the start of LY: TEAR & ANSWER (especially Jin’s intro mv for “Epiphany”).
Also, it relates a lot to what’s happening in the webtoon (SAVE_ME) as well. There were moments where Jin kept failing BECAUSE he wasn’t patient or let nature (or time) take its course. Each time he had to go back, he kept trying to rush things which ultimately blew up in his face because when he saved one of them, another died or suffered.
1. “The shadow is the image of ourselves that slides along behind us as we walk toward the light. The persona, its opposite, is named after the Roman term for an actor’s mask. It is the face we wear to meet the social world around us.”
2. “Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darkness of other people.”
3. “ Where love rules, there is no will to power; and where power predominates, there love is lacking. The one is the shadow of the other.“
Again, I think this applies to many moments since HYYH till now. But strongly since LY: TEAR began. How each of them tried to find happiness by trading something from their past in the Magic Shop for something “positive”. Pretending that everything was fine when facing others around them, but the happiness they traded ended up being “Fake Love” and so their masks of happiness and perfection crumbled.
The second one reminds me a lot of Namjoon and how he started with “I wish I could have loved myself.” with REFLECTION (WINGS Era).
But the many performances Bangtan have put up since the MMA-onwards (even during IDOL), The dance break where they act as marionettes is the harsh reality of many performers who put up a persona to please their audience (the fans). More often than none, sacrificing their own happiness and chances to live an every day normal life.
So will this be a continuation to the concept of FAKE LOVE/TEAR? But this time truly facing themselves instead of running away or trading reality for another mask?
