"yeah. sure." axel ran a hand over the back of his head, scratching at the back of his scalp as he tried hard to fall into his usual pattern of over-thinking everything. it had only gotten worse after the divinity in his blood had been awakened, sadly. for now, he shucked off his shirt and sat down on the bed so he could toe off his shoes. that felt easy enough, especially since this was how he looked earlier when link was checking where he'd been hit with an arrow. it was fine now, even if they were still dealing with it.
"beer?" he called out, watching lincoln move around from his seat on the bed. he felt like he should say more but he couldn't figure out what for the life of him. so he went with the old faithful of, "so, you wanna talk about it?"
lincoln focused on the task at hand as he rummaged through the remnants of his refrigerator and brought over to the man a bottle of steinlager in hand with one for each of them. " i'm fine. " he didn't know what else to say, his thoughts racing as he adjusted his body to showcase his cover up. " like my new tattoo? " he asked as a harsh sun shimmered on his right rib.
moving back to sit down on a chair near his bed, the man shook his head no. " what more is there to talk about? this place is trying to kill us and our comrades are fucking dunces. "
he knew where the helios cabin was mostly because he'd gone so far out of his way to avoid it those first couple of days. he knew lincoln well- or at least he knew the lincoln he went to school with about a decade ago well. assuming not much had changed, he was sure the guy would be just fine. his bed would never be empty if he didn't want it to be. he was attractive, charming and far too into the chase for his own good. that's definitely how the two of them had eventually collided way back when.
but that's not why axel is here now. he's here because on damn near every mission so far someone has been on the brink of death and on two out of three? he was one of them. if link was feeling something because of that? axel could be here for him. that's why he's pushing through the door, finding his way to that bedroom and standing at the edge of the bed, watching the son of the sun carefully.
"hey."
" hey. " he responded back, leaning forward and sitting at the edge of the bed while patting next to him for axel to relax. he didn't necessarily know what his plan was in getting axel over but the other was familiar and perhaps that would help in this moment.
" why don't you get comfortable, glad you don't have to spend the night in one of those shitty infirmary beds. " the man spoke honestly and with a smile as he decided to stand up in his pair of black boxer briefs while he walked to his nearest fridge for a drink. " want something to drink? water? soda? a beer? "
[ @duckandash ] gods, he was fucking exhausted and tired of the bullshit that some of these demigods just seemed to have to sputter out. egos and pride ; blah blah blah — lincoln was learning what teamwork meant here and to build his own connections and fuck the rest. it's why he reached out to axel, he'd been meaning to reach out to him for weeks but how do you even start something after being asked to leave the other alone because he reminded him of home.
but with death so imminent, lincoln knew he craved for a sweet escape and waited in his bed for the one person who truly knew him to arrive.
"hey-woah-linc-hey!"
the squawk that comes out of axel was downright embarrassing as he was picked up but, honestly, that was so busy trying to wrap his head around what the hell the fates were playing at with all of this that he couldn't tell if he was dizzy from thinking of from link. he was just happy he was put down before he had to ask for it.
thankfully the darkness could hide the eye roll about the bouldering. "helios..." he repeated, his face scrunching. there's some strange irony here. the night after having a falling out with the demigod of the moon, someone from his past shows up claiming to be the demigod of the sun.
"lincoln... link." god, it was weird to be talking to this man again. it's been years and he's feeling all kinds of things and he wished he could say all of them were bad but. "I'm just gonna keep it real transparent with you right now, alright? when I got that same message you did? I was fucking ecstatic 'cause I thought I didn't have to think about anything from before coming here ever again. so I'm a little off tilt right now 'cause you being here complicates that."
it's wild how everything settles in and that threads of divinity seemed to tie together without any of these people ever really even knowing it. " crazy, huh. " lincoln repeated himself, how own mind couldn't get over seeing his freshmen year roommate in this moment after a decade apart. when axel graduated, link transferred to usc and hadn't been back to san diego since.
" yeah, whatever. shoot. " link listened to the other's appeal and it hit him right in the heart. did the other want to forget everything of a world that nourished them all? " i don't think i complicate anything, axel. " he chimed in, eyes settling in on a man who he had only known for a blimp in his life so long ago.
" i don't know what you expect me to say as though i had this incredible fucking life and left it to come here. " his words were transparent back. " you follow me on social media, you've seen what kind of mess i tend to get myself into. " the son of helios thought back to his children ; they were probably better off to think that he had died anyway with how absent he had been their entire lives.
[ @sonsofjustice ] the other was skillful ; a quick maneuver and lincoln was flat on his ass and wolfram had him pinned. tapping himself out, they do of them had been tied now and this would be the tiebreaker. it had been thirty minutes of them grappling, the skill useful while they were out battling and worth getting better at as they continued to punch leagues above their weight class.
without any weapons, they only had their strength, athletics, and dexterity to rely on. lincoln went for the legs first as a feint and quickly spun himself around and pinned the other with his body collapsed tightly against the son of nemesis waiting for him to tap out.
" come on, wolfram. i fucking got you, just give up already. "
"uh huh." axel said absentmindedly, not thinking much of it. he hadn't seen this particular guy around camp yet. that was weird, given the amount of time he'd been here but time schedules and such could allow for such a thing. he didn't think too much of it.
he didn't at first, at least. until the man say his name. because no matter how much he was trying to leave his past behind him, he couldn't ever forget that voice saying his name.
"lin...coln?" he drew out the name not because he didn't remember it but because he was almost afraid to say it. like if he manifested one person, everyone else from san diego and beyond would suddenly come out of the bushes. "what the hell are you doing here?"
he lifts the other up and twirls him around in a brutish bear hug, spinning him as he rests his face against the other's in an vibrant display of emotions before lincoln feels the panging reminder of what axel meant to him and what followed in his aftermath and wake.
placing him down back on the ground, lincoln cleared his throat and laughed a little to reset the interaction. " you know, some fucking dude came to me while i was bouldering and said i was the son of the fucking sun. helios. wild shit. " he let out a sharp exhale, the thought still was so baffling to him.
" why, does this mean you here cause of that too? that's un-fucking-believable? who would've ever thought, huh. " lincoln was trying to lean into warmth of the moment. knowing how susceptible everyone in his life had been to the flames, link tried to find the balance but never could get it right.
axel had spend a lot of his day studying instead of training and exercising so he had some excess energy to burn. the newly awakened son of hermes learned the hard way that he had to do get a certain level of exhaustion or he'd suffer from horrible bouts of insomnia. since he couldn't see in the dark and wasn't _that_ good of friends with any of the guys who had gyms in their cabins, long and fast runs around camp were his best option at night.
he'd already tuckered himself out and was simply cooling off before calling it and heading back to his cabin when he'd ran into the demigod equivalent of a mac truck. axel cursed silently as he shook it off and laughed at question. "yeah, no, it's totally normal to almost get a concussion by running into a guy's chest."
he did push aside his own annoyance to take the offered hand, though.
lincoln helped the other up as he leaned back and pulled to get the other to stand. " i guess with all this new power shit, hard to know your own strength sometimes. " he kept himself honest, giving a pat to the other's shoulder as though to dust him off from the collision.
" wait. " link nearly froze in his tracks as he finally got a decent look at the other and it was like he was catapaulted to a decade ago when he first was at san diego state university.
" axel fucking correa, is that you? " his voice raised, humming even as he looked at the other in both incredible surprise and elation if it was indeed who he thought it was.
First note, dude was hot.
Not like, normal hot, but the kind of hot that permeated, that went beyond the physical. The kind of hot that glowed, like a hot stove luring one to touch, despite fully knowing better.
So, Simon just slid past the figure in the doorway, to nod and lead him further inside.
"Oh, they didn't tell you?" One lie, cocked and loaded. "The ladies' village is across the lake. There's mixers and shit, but good luck if you get caught." He shifted his shoulders, sniffed, did his best to appear natural while giggling and kicking on the inside. "Virgin goddesses and all that shit."
Lincoln often knew better but there was something about being in a new space that made him a ferocity to scorch and burn everything in his wake. His eyes caught the other, nearly eight inches taller then him as he placed a hand on the man's shoulder and gave it a squeeze. " That's some bullshit, man. this place is getting worse and worse by the minute. "
Link gestured the man forward but kept in time with him as he naturally attempted to lead the other toward the food as he planted a hand over the other's shoulder as he naturally would to any stranger for the sake of asserting himself into other people's life without any hesitation.
" Well, damn. i guess the no women thing would be a problem if i hadn't learned some very key things during college. "
Another glance over to the man, seeing if he could get the other even a tiny bit hot and bothered. There was such a beauty to the art of seduction and persuasion and Link loved the fucking chase.
wow, this place was truly something else.
lincoln absolutely hated that there were no women here. sure, there were nymphs but, something about them had him worried that they'd cast something evil against him for his usual antics. so instead, he decided to go for a little nighttime jog to help clear his mind. he'd have to find himself a gym or something because he felt like he wasn't himself if he didn't have a place to lift, throw, or toss something heavy around.
without skipping a beat, link turned a corner and slammed himself — hard into a stranger. " yo, buddy. get up. i didn't hit you that hard, did i? " he hadn't thought it, but the man was like a brick wall. lincoln offered a hand, slightly peeved that the other could be so careless. [ @duckandash ]
lincoln wasn't expecting to find someone that reminded him of one of his best buddies at home ; gruffly slapped together with tattoos and a howl in him that helped the mundane nature of life feel a little more lively.
finding himself a six pack of beer from the mess hall, link opened up his cabin to greyson for them to hang out and just shoot the shit to be and exist without having to worry about all the other shit that plagued them.
he was certain that things would bubble up ; the man looked agitated and annoyed often, but for now he'd focus on just relaxing.
" here. " lincoln tossed over a can to greyson as he headed over to the living area that was filled with bronze, gold, and orange motifs of the sun. " this shit is so crazy, i can't believe i'm fuckin' here. " [ @wxldhxrt ]
it had been a single day and lincoln still wasn't sure why he agreed to something so radically unbelievable. he hadn't drank shit, he hadn't prayed to no one but he was supposedly the son of a primordial god of the sun? who the fuck was helios even, anyway?
link was never one who could feel his feelings so vibrantly and found his way through it by running viciously and pushing his body to its limits to force him to feel the exertion then his buzzing mind.
after an hour of kicking his own ass, the sun still had barely begun its rise and the man couldn't help but laugh at the irony of trying to escape something so ever present. so instead, lincoln would head to his cabin roof and strip himself bare to enjoy some time sunbathing as he would often do at home.
however, these days some of these cabins looked incredibly familiar and somehow he ended up atop apollo's. [ @godling-jesse ]
life could just hit someone right in the nuts at any time and then they would be gripping onto a fucking flying horses' mane with a handful of personal items when being offered an opportunity to learn about that feeling that pestered you your whole damn life. you weren't sure why but people gravitated towards you and things seemed to always work out — well, until they didn't.
three seriously failed relationships, two spawns later and lincoln was a thirty-one year old who seemingly had it all and still had nothing to show for it. a successful company ; clout and social prestige but, everything in front of him seemed to incinerate as soon as people passed a threshold.
after dropping his things, lincoln briefly took a look around and mostly saw a male-dominated camp and he groaned thinking that there seemed to be skewed.
" where the fuck are all the women? " lincoln groaned while entering the mess hall, hoping perhaps they were all in the kitchen cooking or something that'd explain this fiasco. [ @abrakabullshlt ]
