Today 13 years ago, Sundara Karma appeared on Reading Chronicle newspaper as the 2012 winners of "Reading Rock Academy Battle of the Bands"! šāØ
"Last year's winners, Sundara Karma, won a host of prizes including studio time, and had their winning song released on Itunes." (x)
oh my god, i just randomly stumbled upon the Indiependent's review on the lads' "Wishing Well" track from 2023 and this part sent meee š¤£šš how did they know I started this blog exactly as a 16 year old back then and by the time the track was released, I was going through a quarter life crisis (even still ongoing now)??? hahahah

You know what, I feel like there are two possibilities on what's next after SK split:
They're still gonna be together but under different name + genre (aka rebranding themselves), might even add new members (god knows who but I can picture their long-time pals joining, say Fred MacPherson, Ben Gregory(?), etc.) If yes, of course this would take quite a while until they're ready to unveil it.
They're indeed disbanding, going on their own separate ways: Oscar, considering he's been into electropop-kind music these past few years, he might pursue musical projects in that genre (plus he's close friend with Hannah Diamond so~); Haydn, cutting ties with the industry, might be building his new chapter of life with his fiancƩe and continuing his culinary career (he used to work as a chef/cook - can't remember which - at a restaurant fyi!); Dom, might take the same path as Haydn (bar the culinary career, he seems to be more interested in motorbikes... other than that I can't really imagine what's the next thing he'll be pursuing); and Ally... he's the only one I have zero assumptions - he just seems to be more closeted than the others about sharing his interests or hobbies publicly!
Whatever it is they're preparing or doing ... I wish them success for future endeavours!! Well, these are only my perspectives. Let me know in the replies if you have any thoughts <3
āWeāve known each other since we were eight years old. Can you believe that? Eight years old. Eight. A long, long time. Weāre 29 now, thatās fucking ages. Weāve been a band since we were 12 years old. These guys are my best mates in the entire world. I donāt think you understand what it means to be on stage with these guys. And for you all to be here, weāre very, very lucky. Thank you.ā (x)

This has been one of the hardest decisions weāve ever had to make, but after years of sharing our music with you all, weāve decided itās time to close the most significant chapter of our lives so far. Weāve been a band for over twelve years and weāve experienced things we could never have imagined. This journey has been nothing short of incredible! As weāve grown, so have our hopes and dreams, and weāre ready to explore new things. Itās not goodbye to musicāitās just time for us to step away from making music as Sundara Karma. One thing that remains constant as we enter this new chapter is our friendship. We are, and always will be, the best of friends. The bond weāve built over these years since starting the band as kids at school has only grown stronger, and thatās something we treasure as much as the music weāve made together. To every fan who came to our shows, listened to our music, or supported us in any wayāthank you. Youāve been with us through it all, and weāll forever be grateful for the love, energy, and time youāve shared with us. It may sound trite to say, but we truly couldnāt have done this without you. Youāve made this experience unforgettable. Loving you always & forever, Oscar, Haydn, Ally, Dom -23 September 2024

Any Other Questions: Sundara Karma
(Dork, 18 November 2021)
Yes, Dear Reader. We enjoy those āin depthā interviews as much as anyone else. But ā BUT ā we also enjoy the lighter side of music, too. We simply cannot go on any longer without knowing that Sundara Karmaās Oscar Pollock would call a pet hippo Mudflap. Good name. Hereās some off-topic questions to find out āmoreā.
Whatās the weirdest thing youāve ever eaten? Iām a bit of a rogue cook, so itās probably some sort of meal Iāve fused together using whateverās left in the fridge.
What did you last dream about? I keep having these eerie recurring dreams that are set in vast catacombs. Nothing much happens, the whole dream is just mad suspense, and thereās really dissonant music playing in the background.
Whoās your favourite new band? Planet 1999.
Whatās your biggest accomplishment? Staying off the drinky drink.
Have you ever been thrown out of somewhere? Too many nightclubs as an underage teenager in Reading.
What strength Nandos sauce do you order? Extra, extra hot.
What was the last thing you broke? I honestly cannot recall; Iām quite careful.
If you could have a superpower of your choosing, what would it be? Telekinesis.
Are any of your lyrics secretly rude? Think Iām always bait with that stuff, so no. Although actually, maybe.
What was your favourite subject at school? English.
Have you ever had a crush on a fictional character? All the time.
Whatās your biggest fear? World War 3.
Have you ever won anything? We won a battle of the bands thing once when we were 16.
What is your earliest memory? Seeing ghosts.
What do you always have in your refrigerator? Oat milk :/.
What is your most treasured possession? Probably my PC, tbh.
If you had a pet hippo, what would you call it? Mudflap.
If you could bring something extinct back to life, what would you choose? Dinosaurs.
How punk are you out of ten? Minus 10.
Whatās your favourite smell? Cedarwood, pine or lavender, I canāt choose.
Whatās the most embarrassing thing thatās ever happened to you? Recently, falling off my bike at a set of traffic lights in the middle of Shoreditch on a Friday night.
What compliment would you most like to receive? You donāt look tired!
If you could win a lifetime supply of anything, what would you choose? Hard drives.
Do you believe in aliens? For sure!!
Tell us a secret about yourself? Iām not a true blonde.
What fashion would you most like to make a comeback? 2010s.
If we gave you £10, what would you spend it on? A sick fit.
If a genie granted you three wishes, what would you ask for? End all cruelty toward animals. Increase the worldās capacity to empathise. A free license to every single music plug-in in the world.
Smooth or chunky? Chunky.
What is your favourite time of day? Sunrise.
Whatās the silliest thing you own? Ethereum.
Whatās one thing youāve always wanted to try? Skydiving.
If you had to be on a TV game show, which would you choose? Big Brother.
Why are you like this? Idk.
Taken from the November 2021 edition of Dork, out now. Sundara Karmaās single āGodsendā is out now.
