You certainly did not expect to start off your day by looking out the window of your chambers to find First Order ships approaching your lovely planet’s landing dock. However, you immediately sprung into action, knowing exactly what they were here for.
You got ready quickly, slipping into your most diplomatic looking attire. A knock came at your door, and one of the maids peaked her head in. Without even having to say a word, you both nodded at each other, and she followed behind you as you hurriedly walked up to your office.
A guard entered the second you sat down in your chair, looking at you apprehensively.
“Ma’am, Generals of the First Order are here to speak with you.” He said, voice ringing out in the silent room. One of your advisors turned to you, waiting for you to reply.
“I suppose the only thing we can do is send them in.” You say, bringing your fingers to your temple, preparing yourself for whatever is to come. The guard walked out, returning just moments later with two men trailing behind him.
“Madame President,” He announced, holding his arm out and stepping to the side, “Generals Hux and Ren of the First Order.”
The title of General of the First Order was intimidating enough as it was, but the men that were standing in front of you put the word intimidating to shame. However, you held your ground against their icy stares (although General Ren was wearing a mask, you could still feel his cold eyes on you), squaring back your shoulders as you prepared to address them.
You met the eyes of General Hux, who gave you a curt nod.
“Please, take a seat.” You said, motioning towards the two chairs in front of your desk. Hux took the chair to the left, but Ren remained standing, the figure of darkness with his face hiding behind his mask and his black robes brushing the floor. You only spared the man a glance, deciding that General Hux was your best bet at communication.
“May I ask the nature of this visit?” You question, folding your hands on your desk. Hux cleared his throat before speaking for the first time.
“Well you see, Madame President, we require the um-” He is cut off by Ren, who obviously feels that he is not getting the point across fast enough.
“We are here to obtain the item that you call the ‘energy core’.” He explains shortly, his voice coming out robotic through the modulator of his mask.
You immediately clench your jaw, whipping your head towards Ren.
“There is no choice here. Either you hand over the energy core or we will take it.” He replied, taking a threatening step closer towards you.
The guard, still standing at the door, moves his hand towards the blaster in his belt, but, without ever turning his head, Ren flicks his hand and the blaster frings across the room. That small move is enough to get the guard to back down, knowing that there is nothing he can do against a man like Ren.
Slightly frightened, yet also slightly amazed, you sit there, not sure what to do but feeling the anger bubble inside of you. Seeing the infamous Force used for the first time, you tried to contain your wonder by reminding yourself that Ren could snap the neck of any of the people in the room without even moving a muscle. This realization sparks more fury inside of you.
You stand up quickly, your chair flying back. “General Ren, with all due respect, you will not be taking the energy core, and I will not be giving it to you. That core is what powers this whole planet, and I will not be putting my people’s lives in danger for some First Order scheme.” He takes another step towards you, and you round your desk, coming to face him directly, with no borders. You crane your neck up to look at him, staring into the glass of his mask where you assume his eyes to be, “This planet has gone against greater enemies than you in order to protect the core, and we will not hesitate to match and exceed any force you use in order to protect what is ours.”
You both take another step towards each other, your chests almost touching. You can hear his heavy breathing from the modulator, and see his fists clench out of the corner of your eye.
“Your threats mean nothing to me, girl. If you believe you can defend your planet against the Empire, you are greatly mistaken.” Despite the modulator, his voice comes out absolutely feral, and you feel a twinge of fear, not for yourself, but for your people. You want nothing more than to call out the Darth Vader wannabe standing in front of you, but you know better than that, and try your best to contain yourself. You take a step back, your cheeks and ears hot with suppressed anger. Angling your body more towards General Hux, who you believe to be more reasonable than Ren from what you have witnessed, you take a deep breath in an effort to rein yourself in.
“Here is how I see it, Generals. It would be a waste of both of our resources to fight over this matter when we can negotiate a deal.” You walk back around to your chair, sitting down and smoothing out some wrinkles on your clothes, attempting to regain the diplomatic professionalism that you had momentarily lost.
“You want the energy core. I am not going to let you have it. That part is simple.” You continue, trying your best to avoid looking at General Ren, who has remained silent since you sat back down, “The best I can do is offer some energy extractions from the core.”
Hux nods, taking a moment to consider your offer, “We do need a sizable amount of energy.” He says in a slightly warning tone.
“While I cannot allow you to take all of the energy at once, small extractions with periods of time in between to allow the core to recharge is acceptable.”
“It is a deal then.” Ren concurs in a biting tone, turning on his heel and walking away with a swish of his robes. Hux quickly follows behind after telling you that they will be back in 3 days time.
Once they are gone, you let out a breath of relief that you made it out of that meeting alive. You secretly hope that they will send others to collect the extractions, knowing that any more time in proximity with the vile General Ren (and Hux too, of course) will prove increasingly difficult for you to control your excessive anger towards the irritating man.
Thank you for reading! I’ve got the next two chapters ready, and will gradually post them. This series isn’t much, but it’s an idea that I’ve had in my head for awhile that I really wanted to get out. I hope you like it!
