Ryland Grace is the character of all time actually. He's a genius molecular biologist. He's a middle school teacher. He wears big cozy knitted jumpers and his glasses are hanging off his face (defying gravity) roughly 58% of the time. He thinks he's a coward but makes peace with dying for a good cause. His best friend is a rock alien he met on an end of the world buddy-buddy roadtrip. The first thing he teaches to said alien best friend are dance moves. He saves the universe with the power of shitty arts and crafts. He cries in more scenes than any male lead I can remember in a Hollywood movie. His happy ending is living in a terrarium on a distant planet like his alien best friend's weird rescue pet. He's also aroace coded.

i think there is a statue of grace. on the campus of the university where he got his phd. it's a big base, like the statue atop it is going to be a larger than life hero standing brave. but instead it is him, life size, sitting with his feet dangling off the edge and turned slightly to the side like he is in conversation.

there is room to sit next to him. students like to hop up and sit next to dr. grace to get advice, vent, just take a minute. he's a friend to all on campus

omggg just finished mensageira da sorte (the luck messenger, roughly translated), and the PLOT TWIST, the protests and the corruption schemes, the whole luck and bad luck balance and how people deal with trauma was just *chef's kiss* perfection!! Fernanda Nia is definitely an amazing author, and even though I only read two of her books, I liked them very much, and will probably read the rest of them <3333333
