my take on “sun fell first and hoon fell harder”, but in platonic way:
Around the end of iland, Sunoo witnessed Sunghoon’s fragile side for the first time when he cried, reading a letter from his parent.
Sunghoon, a normal teenager in a harsh and stressful survival show, he might be doubting his choice of leaving figure skating, wondering if his parents, and he himself, are proud of his own decision in pursuing as idol career.
Sunoo, who had always tried to get closer to Sunghoon because he was handsome and sunghoon recommended Sunoo when they’re deciding parts, realized then that Sunghoon is just a normal boy like he is, maybe with more anxieties than he thought he had, plus the fact that unlike Sunoo who joined many extracurricular activities and has many friends, Sunghoon couldn’t spend his youth like normal teenagers do.
So he made it his secret mission to make sure Sunghoon is enjoying his idol life after debut: being all clingy and always entertains him by constantly bickering.
“And even if we’ve gotten closer, I want to get much much closer with you, so I absolutely will never give up and run, understood?” - Sunoo, 2020
Two years have passed, and he observed how Sunghoon is a lot more comfortable in expressing himself, letting himself loose and has completely moved on from his first love that is skating.
This explains how now Sunoo no longer feels the need to crave for his attention, no need to entertain him with childish bickering again, and he chose to subtly watch him over with a tender smile behind his back. Ending his ‘happy crush’ phase.
… which left Sunghoon questioning many things. And now it’s Sunghoon who keeps stealing glances at him (as if he didn’t already!), wondering what’s inside Sunoo’s mind.
