it has officially been a year since i first got into wind breaker and watched season 1 of the anime (*´∇｀*) time flies! it’s a great story, and it means a lot to me just how gentle the story can be towards being human. i love suosakusuo so much… to think i’d be experiencing suo’s arc so soon after getting into winbre… i’m excited to see how sakura’s journey will continue, and of his friends’ as well >.<

“why does red chanpuru have a 15 year old as one of their captains? why isn’t an adult in charge?” while wind breaker may detach itself from what would be realistic constraints on an average teenager’s life, i feel like this reveal is meant to represent when a child is given adult responsibilities. your question could apply to so many real-life burdens children carry.

think of teenagers who have to become second parents for their siblings. because their parents are either neglectful, or often away for work that the older children have to pull their weight and share the burdens with their parents. think of the concept of parentification itself. there are so many more examples that are not absurdly fictional scenarios and instead reality for many children because the adults who surround them don’t step up and take care of them or themselves.

endo provided a brief explanation of red chanpuru and cosmopolitan city, but we don’t know the extent of their history and how the atmosphere had shifted over time with the succession line. suo saying that it’s hard to say anything when it’s a family matter serves as a reminder that what one believes to seemingly be logical to observers is world-shattering and against the morals of those in the situation who have emotional ties keeping them there, either from manipulation to one’s own will.

it’s very easy to act proud and morally right when you’re not finding yourself in that forementioned predicament. even then, we’re all different, from upbringing to our core values. what one could see as life-saving and motivation to serve their savior can be the bare minimum to someone else who finds it ludicrous to consider sacrificing their own desires and solely live at someone’s beck and call with no regard for their self.

cosmopolitan city being multicultural and established about 80 years ago could imply that it’s possibly made up of people who have escaped from places they were marginalized and prosecuted in, or immigrants who needed a better life for themselves and their children. it’s a city that could be made up of people who are or descended from people who seeked refuge. people who may have wanted to thrive in a city rich with diversity, to learn and connect with so many different people from all corners of the world. you can share more in common with a stranger across the world than your own blood relative.

this could mean a lot of potential themes being introduced, themes or unanswered questions built up off from past arcs, or allusions to historical events!

after all, when a group forms, there will always be the perceived ‘other’. those who are opposition to one’s beliefs, one’s freedoms, one’s happiness. and sometimes, if you hand power to someone with enough resentment or determination, self-serving or benevolent, this can shake up the status quo if they pursue a goal with these feelings and supporters in tow. one can be motivated enough to act for their own sake, and it’s not like selfishness is inherently evil. you have a right to seek happiness. the means and sacrifices to said joy and self-fulfillment is what can be debated. but when your loved ones are on the line, i think that your motive for protecting and keeping others safe makes one more determined to go through with their plans if the impact goes beyond themselves. we know very little about red chanpuru, so this is just speculation.

that said, i’m very interested in the concept of cosmopolitan city. i wonder how many people, including those of the red chanpuru in power, see it as a haven. a safe space from a world that fails so many people who slip through the cracks of inadequate systems, a world that has brutalized them, their loved ones, or their ancestors for who they are. and if with the change in leaders and captains, the population have begun to split in whether their city is truly the haven it was meant to be. how many find joy in sharing their culture with others in the city, and appreciating those distinct to their own.

i’ll admit, that’s a pretty heavy assumption of mine on what’s to come. my heart aches for those who suffer solely for who they are, just because those in power thrive off their suffering. and if no one seems to act, if attempts to fix systems are discarded or ignored, if you continue to see people suffer, to see how history ruthlessly repeats itself, to face the indifference of unaffected bystanders, then eventually someone is going to take matters in their own hands out of desperation.

endo not fucking with umemiya is one of the funniest things about wind breaker to me. he doesn’t bat an eye at sakura snapping at him over suggesting to just forget about suo (yes i know that him being very much smitten with sakura played a role in his demeanor, he probably Likes sakura’s brashness especially when it’s attention directed at him) yet is so Blatantly annoyed and disgusted when umemiya nicely asks him to continue (mind you, with the other furin students being hostile or guarded towards him) its just too funny

hi! i hope you don’t mind me asking but what happened with Akatsuki? im very out of the enstars loop so i feel a bit lost in understanding what all is going on 😅 feel free to ignore me if you don’t want to explain!

No problem at all! I'll explain to the best of my ability.

Recently, Enstars added 5 new idols. One of the new idols is Taki Ibuki and he is from Okinawa and is Ryukyuan. When Japan colonized the Ryukyu Kingdom, they forced the people to assimilate into Japanese culture. This process is called Japanization.

So, when rumors came out about the Ryukyuan character Ibuki possibly joining Akatsuki, a unit focused on Traditional Japanese aesthetics, people who know that history immediately called out the implications of writing such a thing. The head writer is known to write indigenous characters disrespectfully, but surely he wouldn't go this far?

It's been stated in several Akatsuki stories that Keito, Kuro, and Souma want it to only be them. There is a heavy emphasis on them having a bond stronger than blood. This is gonna be a one-off collab that leads to something bigger maybe Ibuki will go solo! Literally anything else BUT this please.

What followed was a story that mischaracterized every Akatsuki member. It was like all character development was reversed, for Keito, it seemed like he was a completely different dude.

The Enstars official twitter released a message to "Please not spoil the last few chapters for at least 4 days 🥺" they've never done this to my knowledge. It was blatant damage control for the shitstorm they had created themselves. Ibuki was brought into Akatsuki. What followed the next few hours were QRTs in all different languages absolutely GOING IN on Happyele, as they should. I saw so many people mourning the future of the franchise, many more leaving altogether, so much sadness and anger.

People connected the dots of releasing a Rei along with the event, since he's very very popular, and also announcing the PJSK collab. These would build up hype so maybe people would overlook it or it would draw them back in or some shit.

If I'm to sum it up in one sentence I'd say that Akatsuki was blatantly mischaracterized so they could fit their racist narrative of Indigenous people being "primitive" or "fixable" and needing to assimilate into Japanese culture.
