Defiance

The flowers you brought me are dying

And no amount of sugar will save them.

They were Specks in the impure snow 

And you denied them their victory

When you picked them mid battle.

Now they sit in a Belgian beer bottle 

Silently dying a death

That we do not care for

because their pain is not our concern.

Instead, we praise them for their beauty 

When their real triumph was their defiant growth.
