day 365: one year ago, I landed in Zambia with people who I had just met.. and with whom I'm now slightly obsessed with (oops!). here's to all the days planning lives around Zesco loadshedding, sweating from the heat of the NICU, nights out dancing at Chicagos, losing track of the number of vitumbuas eaten, long cathartic walks to everywhere in Lusaka, and so many more lifelong memories and connections made with new friends. day 271: happy birthday to the most selfless, strong, and kind woman I know. You sneakily slid this photo in my journal the day before I left for Zambia. Counting down the days until we can talk at 100mph until 2am, share chai and Marie/Parle G biscuits, eat your handmade food (mainly me), and prepare for exciting new beginnings!

Day 263: 'Ivuka' or 'Rebirth' in Kinyarwanda. During my two weeks spent in #Rwanda over the holidays, I fell in love with her (an understatement) and knew I'd be back. Coincidence lent itself to me staying at an art gallery whose artists I met at a First Fridays exhibition in Charlottesville in October 2012 (!). JMV is one of the many friends I made, who is not only an incredible artist, but a damn good cook, too.
