surf|run|climb turned 4 [several weeks ago]!

Somewhat recently I was reminded that my tumblr is now 4 years old. Over that time period I have amassed 800 posts exactly (801 after this post). Due to operational commitments I have been less active than normal, though more active in my human life, which I would count as a win.

At tech-free camps, people pay hundreds to unplug.

The overwhelming and endless stream of electronic alerts and messages on our computers, phones and tablets is driving demand for anew kind of summer camp for adults. “Technology-free" camps that force their campers to surrender their gadgets, wallets and that nagging “fear of missing out"—FOMO—are booking up fast.

In June, The Digital Detox held it first session of Camp Grounded, a three-day break from electronic devices in the Redwoods of Northern California. At a price tag of $350, the event sold out.

"You read articles about being present and being in the moment, and you kind of nod your head and you agree. But I don’t think you know what that means until you put everything away and you’re okay with where you are," says Anastasia Savvina, who attended the June camp.

Somewhat out of practice in my sushi making ability, coupled with lack of seaweed sheets, my attempt at salmon roll devolved into a hacked up pile of fish, avocado and rice.

Need help from SB outdoorsmen:

I’m dropping my wife off in Santa Barbara this weekend to see her girlfriends and since I’m already going to be there I figured I may as well have an adventure myself.

Problem is, all the state parks seem to be booked up for campsites. Are there ways to camp for on the beaches or backcountry in the surrounding area without having to reserve a campsite?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Also if you care to join me send a PM.
