RoadRat is in a top mood as he readies this tasty Harley Fat Boy for a test ride after a bit of work. The name Fat Boy is said to be a contraction of Fat Man and Little Boy - the two live-fire nukes from WW2.

In our darkest hour a new event shines light on our lockdow blues.The Indian Pacific Cannonball Classic has gone live for registrations. The event starts on 14-10-22 at Busselton Jetty WA . And over 14 days finishes at Merimbula NSW on 27-10-22. The event is for 1948 and earlier motorcycles , of all brands that existed then. The event has its early evolution with The Surfside Motorcycle Garage Vintage Race Team , and has been in development for a number of years in RoadRat, and the teams minds. COVID slowed the team down a bit in getting this event live , but it lives and snorts fire from its exhaust now. Thanks to Road Rat , Johnny Martin, Adam Chate & Jim Rich for pushing us into existence. Along with the Indian Pacific Cannonball Classic Directors, who have moved Heaven and Earth to make this International Event real. Bikes are being repaired and trailers sorted. Exciting times ahead and lots and lots more work before the start flag drops.

The Hesketh Vampire V1000, we have the first one to ever be built here at Surfside. We had the pleasure of putting the first few km on it since it arrived in Australia. It was built in 1982 by Hesketh Motorcycles, there were 50 fully faired Vampires produced. When we test rode the bike this week, we found that the engine was amazing and was very powerful, all and all we thought this racey bat was fabulous!!

What happens when a Superbike engineer builds a cafe racer? Meet the stunning XC1 from David Sánchez of @bottpower. It’s a radical re-imagining of the Buell XB series, using modern tech like CAD design and finite element analysis. The twin spar frame is now gone: everything hangs off a steel backbone that uses the engine as a stressed member. (There’s a titanium option too, naturally). Bottpower have also fitted a side-mounted air intake, a set of titanium headers and a Torque Hammer muffler. With a remap of the ECU, the XC1 now pushes 95HP to the back wheel, in a package that weighs 20kg less than stock.
