It’s a compostable bowl and wooden spoon delivered from Uber eats and the restaurant!!!! I was so happy seeing this. Eating my yum salad and thinking this is great, no waste and no plastic! Hell yaaaas! But which bin do I put them in when I finish eating....Recycling or trash? 🤔♻️🤔♻️ do I throw it in my garden because it says compostable on it?! Food! It gives us life and makes us feel good. Everyone has brought their own dish-ware and cutlery for the week at @newkindfestival . Not one thrown away plate, no unnecessary waste 🙅🏻‍♀️What a beautiful thing to see that so many people embrace this habit regularly in their own lives!! We wash our dishes after (stories/highlights I show you how and where) and reuse them for each meal. 🍽🥣🍽 Bringing a dish and cutlery set so if there is a situation where plastic is unavoidable it really comes in handy. Oceans swims before heading to the lectures and workshops, in my happy place 🌊🌊 We heard from Helena Norberg-Hodge writer, producer, and on the Economics of Happiness. You can see the doco on what it discusses but some great takeaways about reaching this happiness start with localization. 🥑🍌🥔Shortening the distance from farm to consumer (getting our food from a local source not from mass produced grocery stores. Farmers markets are great for that and you’re supporting a business in your community plastic-free) 📙🖍Making education customized to the area not just generalized across cultures because everywhere is different and has different needs - We have lost our connection to the earth and to what it means to thrive and global trade is making us disconnect from what nature provides us right around us. 20+ hours of flight travel ahead to @newkindfestival in Australia and already been delayed twice 🙌🏼 ohhhhh the coffee is necessary 😆 I needed to replace my broken reusable coffee cup and wanted something a little more compact, @stojo is great for traveling because it is collapsible! How cool is that?! I posted a video in my story how it works. This is the 16 oz one and it can come with a reusable straw too! 🥤🥤🥤 It’s important to have your own reusable coffee cup because most takeaway cups are not recyclable. There is a very thin polyethylene lining that makes it waterproof but this small amount of plastic also does not allow you to recycle it. Coffee cups CANNOT be recycled, they are thrown in a landfill. Have you gotten yours yet? Most places will give you a discount as well for bringing one in. This year has been about utilizing social media and sharing ways to leave a positive impact on the planet. I've been able to connect with so many incredible people with the same idea and what an amazing journey it's been so far! Many of us are fortunate to be able to remove plastic from our lives, we can get fresh water very easily, our air pollution is low, and we can locate public transport or own a car almost anywhere we go. On the other hand, other parts of the world don’t have these luxuries or if they do they do not come as easily as you might imagine. It’s hard to see this and feels overwhelming trying to tackle these problems by ourselves. But what if more people could step up and make changes together? This is why my first stop in Australia next week is a MASTERCLASS WEEK FOR SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGE in Marion Bay, Tasmania! 🇦🇺 🌿🌍🌿 @newkindfestival We will be listening to speakers, participating in workshops, focusing on how to love the Earth and connecting with more like-minded legends from all over the world! Every morning should start with a delicious breakfast. It sets your day up! This one is açaí in a papaya with star fruit. While at our @plasticfreemermaid retreat all the meals were vegan and prepared fresh everyday. Ingredients were found from the surrounding property or neighboring markets. I was a little worried I wouldn’t be getting enough protein but was actually eating more foods that supported my digestion and felt the best I had in a long time! It was so eye-opening attending the @sfi_cincinnati @sewvalley panel on sustainability in our fashion industry. I shared more about what designers attended and what was discussed on my stories/highlights but the biggest takeaways I left with are (1) to ask questions. 💬💬💬 When shopping, where does this piece come? Not just if the fabric is eco-friendly but is it made in an ethical way? Fair wages, good working conditions for the people physically making the pieces: understanding the supply chain of garments that we support. 👢👠👟 (2) We don’t have the right to own everything. Be conscious when you are shopping and adding pieces to your closet.
