"I am no longer Nagi. My name is Chrome."
30 day KHR Challenge » day 2 • Favorite female: Chrome Dokuro
{ open - sleepless
Everything around Hive City was absolutely new to her. There were many objects she had never seem before - or useful appliances such as electrical lights - and felt she had so much to explore. She was worried about her people, alone and abandoned without her, but she could only hope her council would do their best to keep them safe.
While sleeping (that was, when she found her way into weariness) she would dream of her handmaids and her bloodriders. Rhaegal and Viserion were also of concern, but she knew that they were growing larger and stronger, and believed they would find a way to take care of themselves. Drogon, her most savage child, was with her currently sleeping inside the open closed. He apparently liked the place most on her bedroom, maybe because it resembled a cave.
That night, not unlike many others, she did not sleep. The lights were coming through the window and with a long sigh, she walked barefoot to the chair and grabbed her blue cape, one she had brought with her from her land. As she walked to the door a hiss came to her ears. Glancing back, Drogon was staring at her from the closed, his red eyes intent. “Come.” He opened his wings at once, flapping towards her and finding his place over her left shoulder.
And that was when she finally ventured outside. She was distracted, walking between buildings and people - it was incredible how many were taken from their homes and trapped on this city, much like herself. Dany looked at everyone, trying to wonder what kind of lives they had until getting kidnapped.
It was how she got lost. Unsure of the path she had taken and unafraid of asking, she walked up to the first person she saw. “Excuse me… I believe I lost my way. Would you be so kind to help me?”
Spontaneous walks were taken throughout the city. At first they were to keep her in shape but then it became a search for familiar faces. Naturally she wanted to be disappointed and see no one from her world; no one else should be trapped here. But deep down she was a selfish person. To have the whole gang here would be a blessing. She was also beyond happy to see Mukuro here as well.
Feeling like this caused some self-loathing. It was pushed down and she tried to ignore it, but it kept popping up. Like it did right now. And with it came a solemn smile.
At least they were not here... Knowing this she began her return trip, all too ready to lie down and rest. However she would not go far before being stopped by a stranger's voice.
Upon turning her eye stopped on the female's face but only for a moment before wandering to the dragon. Box weapons like that were so rare that... Well, only one was known of and he was to be feared.
But then the fact that people from many worlds were here was remembered and in place of fear was curiosity. And perhaps some awe. She wondered -- Wait. A question had been asked.
Returning her attention to the white haired stranger Chrome nodded. "I'll try to."

Strained Illusions
Although he had an apartment of his own, Al was more akin to sharing one with his older brother due to the countless times they had roomed together throughout their journeys once before. However, it wasn’t as if his apartment was used for nothing else, something other than himself occupying the space of the complex — and those residents of his old home would be that of felines, all taken care of thanks to him.
Despite the confidence that he showed for his own directions to his old home, being lost wasn’t particularly on the agenda, the suit of armor searching a very unfamiliar building. “I probably should have asked brother to come with me, after all,” he might be able to find someone that could help him out, crimson orbs glancing around in hopes of discovering that exact person. Without less than a second, he spotted a girl — she seemed nice, and also a bit tired.
As a gentlemen, of course he was going to approach with friendly ease, attempting to appear as friendly as possible, due to the odd looks he was given beforehand by others.”Hey, are you alright?” Was the inquiry, Al standing before her, ”You look really worn out,” voice hinted at concern, he turned his head to see if she had been waiting for someone, the empty lobby being the only thing that he saw, “You must be bored sitting here all by yourself,”
An index pointed to the sit next to her,
“Is this seat taken?”
At first the voice fell on deaf ears but upon realizing that it spoke to her the tired illusionist opened her eye to see a towering figure. It was weird; who walked around in a fully body of armor casually? On top of it their voice was different as well.
But after spending her days with someone who changed form with the help of false teeth, a glasses wearing fighter who used yo-yos, and a man that had once possessed an owl Chrome took it as any other sight.
The only thing that truly caught her off guard was the sudden care from a stranger. Before she figured the unconditional concern came from being a family, even as it was a mafia one. But this came without cause.
Slowly she nodded before turning her gaze on the empty seat. She hoped she wasn't in the way.
"You can sit there..." her voice was still weak and low, but she managed to at least complete the sentence. However beyond that everything else the boy had said went unanswered, besides the nod.
"..."
A moment of silence passed before she turned to look at him once more. "Are you looking for someone?"
Habitual needs to rise and wander the city that was now his temporary home rose, needs that he had shirked off for so long. There was countless possibilities as to just why those set of instincts had gone dormant for so long, but the one brought to the forefront of anyone’s mind for those who knew the mortal beast was that there were just simply too many people in this strange city. Even for someone like Kyoya, being abruptly moved away from his pride, when he already did not like to take orders or be forced into anything. Suddenly being shoved into this cage, with so many other animals; Big or small, carnivorous or herbivorous. There was still so many, in a place that he did not want to be by any means. It must have come as some shock to his body.
Walking and walking with no particular goal, letting his senses relax to better take in what was around him. Eyes of metal scanning over all the heads of the dreadful crowds, over the buildings, trying to memorize what was what and where it was. Taking note of what the weather was, and what he could predict of it. ( Even if by now he knew that trying to predict something of it was fickle.) Ears listened to conversations he’d rather not, annoying chitter chatter of all the herding animals around him as he shoved his way through. Doing their best to shut all of it out, it was just annoying noise to him really. Slowly, his annoyance was growing. More and more. He wanted to strike out at these annoying others, and he more or less did when they bumped into him all too harsh.
Eventually, he found himself in a more cleared out area. A place his body had dragged itself to get away from all that mind-numbing hustle and bustle. It was much more calm, much more bearable. For a few moments the skylark just stands there, mulling things over in his head as to which way he should go now. Should he go back to that apartment? Or should he just keep wandering for a little while longer? …Wandering, was what he would ‘brave’ for a few moments longer. Growing familiar with the city would certainly help him in the long run.
Shoes scuffed against the pavement below, getting ready to move out, when all of a sudden something hooked at him. Grabbed his attention like no other could.
Kyoya’s initial reaction was to, of course, swing around at full force with his tonfas drawn. Barely, he was able to stop the wooden weapon a mere few inches away from the head of the petite mist. Eyes narrowed at the person directly in front of him now,“Hn..” words dried up on his tongue as he evaluated the situation, this was…most definitely Chrome. Nagi. Mukuro’s Puppet. It was not him, and the feeling that had jump started him was what he could only assume to be their special connection the two mist guardian’s shared.
So if she’s here, that could only mean good things.
This would mean the demon King would have more access to powers, wouldn’t it? It could mean more fun the Cloud, and it could also mean a escape soon— no matter how much he hated the idea of working along side the damnable man.
Body dropped, un-winding itself from his pouncing stance; Arms now hanging at his sides, head no longer lowered, and legs straightened out. There was something concerning about Chrome being here too, however, would she be able to survive easily enough? Well aware of her, literal, internal problems..and knowledgable of how the scientists had to of shortened both of the Mists’ powers over illusions… “…Are you keeping safe?” normally, he cared little to none about the well-being of others, but Chrome could have very well been the person to get him one step closer back to home. It was, selfish, of course, but right now he was worried with bigger things than that. (Or, as if he ever really fretted about being on the selfish side.) In the back of his mind, he could also vaguely wonder if the two mists had found each other once yet. And maybe that was another question behind his original one.
With the Vongola Mist Ring the illusionist was able to sustain her own life, however there was no luck in finding it here. Without it, and her powers weakened, she became dependent once more. It felt like becoming a burden all over again. To fight this feeling, to prove useful, the need to strength herself became too strong to resist despite the desire to stay near Mukuro. The stronger seemed to sleep in the day now as well, leaving much free time.
A weak body only anchored the mind and so the girl found herself out and about. And though she only took to an unenergetic walk it felt better than staying inside; a run may have been too much anyway.
Not long after starting did she reach a break in the crowd, seeing only a single person in her path. The feeling of knowing this one appeared, but while seeing only their back it was hard to tell. Either way the plan was to just keep walking but when the distance between the two closed she found a weapon being pointed at her.
It was startling but the Mist jumped little and kept a blank stare, blinking until the shock wore off. So the two illusionists were not the only ones from their world to come here. It was a surprise but at least now if anymore showed up she would be excepting it.
This one was...
"Cloudman?"
Hardly his real name, but it was that which she had remembered him by. So even as the correct name came to mind it had slipped out before she gave it proper thought. Then her mind instantly jumped to his words.
Seeing him go from nearly attacking her to asking of her well-being was odd, though the illusionist decided to go along with it. Even if it felt out of place.
"Yes," she replied with a short nod. Not too long ago that would have been all she said, but now it seemed more fitting to return the question. "Are...you?"
Strained Illusions
He felt a certain warmth seeing the child here, though such a feeling was far away from his general consciousness, a flickering candle’s light miles away in the darkness. It was a presence he gave a mental nod to, an acknowledgment that some semblance of humanity still flickered in the Demon’s black heart, enough to care, but not enough to weigh his potential down, to burden his wings as he spread them towards the sky.
His arms, once held open to embrace the smaller teen, fell to his sides, one rested still against the weight of his trident, gloved hand grasped around the midsection of its shaft, holding it with a lazy grace. He took a step forward, right foot first, then left, lifting the wooden weapon in time with the first step. The heels of his boots clicked against the floor, providing a quiet rhythm for the few gaits he took before he had fully closed the distance between himself and the little Mist.
He smiled, small but sincere, and pressed his lips together wordlessly, reaching out with his free hand to pat the girl’s head, to run a thumb over her temple and the apples of her cheekbones and to tip her chin upwards, if only to make it easier for her to meet his gaze.
Mukuro answered his name with her own, followed by a light chuckle.
“My sweet Nagi.”
He let his hand fall to his side once more. Having cemented the truth of his presence with a touch, he could feel the child’s reassurance, the small amounts of strength and courage that he had seeded within her. He took a small step backwards, raised a wrist to his lips and tightened the fit of his gloves with a pull of the leather in his teeth.
The appearance of his doll was a great thing indeed. With her power added to his own, with their innate ability to hide within lies and veiled truths, his plans to take down the City’s core would be ever more likely to succeed. With her body and her lended strength, there was no limit to what the Demon could do, and all unseen as well! The scientists had made a grave mistake granting him such a useful tool, but he would not hook a gift horse in the mouth, no.
Mukuro intended to use the little mist to the full extent of her potential.
When his arms fell Chrome cursed herself for not moving sooner. Her legs did little even now, and she wondered why. Embarrassment? Maybe. Shock even. Though whatever the reason it mattered little now, as at least the stronger was making up for the lack of movement on her end, coming closer every second.
In the meantime the frail girl remained still, breathe nearly held and focus turned on the sound of the moving feet. When it stopped he was there, time seemingly melting away as a hand was placed upon her head.
Regardless of the fact that the other wore gloves the touch still felt warm. Soft, even. And even if the situation was not favorable the scientists had done one thing beneficial which was reuniting them. If that had anything to do with their reasoning then it was obviously for their experiment. Still, she was grateful.
But however happy the illusionist was the moment it came to mind worry returned. What exactly was their reason for being there, in this place where people could limit their powers? It was a rather troubling thought. With it the grip on the trident tightened, the smile faded, and her hands were brought to her chest.
"Mukuro-sama," Chrome repeated, her gaze remaining lifted to see the taller's face. As long as she could still see it the worry did not become overwhelming and, despite the tedious nature of picking a place to start, she continued within a moment. "What is this place?"

Headcanon : Strength
Chrome had accepted death so when Mukuro came along with a reason to live she was able to draw strength from that and still does, having it as her reason to keep growing and move towards the future.
Physical strength…well illusionists are known to be lacking in it but as she uses Mukuro as a model for combat she is learning how to fight without illusions as well, though is still the physically weakest in the team.
[ I don’t have much for this one… ]
Strained Illusions
Her presence had lit up in his mind like a beacon, and in some way, Mukuro had found himself grateful in knowing the safety of his most treasured pawn.
And so close, as well.
Now very much a creature of the night, the Mist had found it hard to raise from his slumber as the strings of sunlight teased at his eyelids, fought for motivation to pull himself from his warm cocoon of blankets and dreamless sleep, to pull his pants off the floor and dress himself for the day, to step into a world full of humans whom he hated with the greatest fervor. But for his doll, the fragile child who had been his window to light and sanity in his darkest hours, he would do such a thing, would go the extra mile and reflect some semblance of humanity if only to show his vessel the smallest sliver of gratitude.
He did not reach out to her mentally. Doing so would key others with detective abilities in the area to his strength, would let them remember the signature and form that his mind took as it wandered. Not that he could travel so far without a body in this city as it was, with his abilities dulled and his senses hazed, the Scientists had left the Demon they housed with clipped wings and broken claws, nearly powerless and defenseless save for his cunning and creativity.
It was quite sad, he thought, quite a pity indeed, that the child who awaited him would have to endure such cruelty, would have to look into a world and a situation not unlike the experimentations this body had experienced in the past. Had he cared for the child more, perhaps he would have had a greater will to shield her from the evils of this world, from the vile and disgusting fog that hung over the city, created from nothing more than the manifestation of anger and hatred and all the negative aspects of human nature.
Even now, to a man who had all but thrown away his humanity, the feeling of it, the great tension it left in the air, left him on edge, hackles raised in a sort of mix of sickness and an alert mind, kept ever on his toes by the nausea that plagued his every day life.
She was close now. The feel of the younger Mist’s flames drew him from his thoughts and he pulled his gloves over slender fingers, fastened his belt over the waistband of his trousers, laced his boots and curled his fingers along the shaft of his trident, let the weight fall limply in one hand as the door shut silently behind him.
She was fatigued, her signature was faint, tired. It was not a stretch to wonder why such a state had fallen upon the little illusionist, a girl whom he had selected himself for her overwhelming potential to manipulate the Mist. While her strength was great, its magnitude was drowned out when compared quantitively to his own. With such limitations upon her abilities, she surely would have trouble maintaining a treatment of her condition.
There was no better way to announce his presence to his precious Nagi.
He placed a hand on her shoulder, only metaphorically, a gesture in spirit, as his presence joined her own momentarily, dancing through her mind like a mirage. There was an image of his hand over her own, a symbol of shared strength, and a supplementation of her waning illusion with his own, tailored towards driving away her fatigue, renewing the life of her illusionary organs.
The spiritual gesture was followed by the sound of his footsteps against the marble tile of the lobby, the echo of his laugh through the space. She would turn to find him exiting the stairwell, gloved hands held at his hips, thumbs resting upon the top of his belt, trident dangling through loose fingers, carrying himself with the same lion’s gait as he always had, tall and strong and proud.
He opened his arms in a welcoming gesture, of sorts.
“It is certainly not the nest you are used to, but in any case, welcome home, little dove.”
During her rest the question of whether or not anyone she knew would be here had appeared. If she were to be alone again... Well, it would not be easy. It was also the least desired path to take in this place and yet... Chrome was already preparing for it.
So when the presence of the one she longed to see the most was felt the amount of surprise, and relief, was rather overwhelming. Though the fear that she had fallen asleep and had dreamt it up came along as well. Even as breathing became easier the fear lingered.
However it was one of her skills to see through illusions. One that, even when limited, should not be tricked like this. So the thought was pushed aside and her eyelid opened.
It was real. He was real.
"Mukuro-sama." The small illusionist got to her feet, blush and a smile forming. If anyone else had called this place home she would not agree, however as it was him it seemed right. As she wanted to belong where ever he was.
A mental thanks was giving in regards to the strength lent. If it wasn't for it she did not know if she would last long in this world.
Strained Illusions
The wooden replica of her weapon passed hands, back and forth, as the girl made her way to the specified living area assigned to her. And while it was to familiarize herself with the new trident the design had varied little enough for her thoughts to be elsewhere.
Such as the fact that this was not the same planet she grew up on. After everything it was not hard to accept the fact that this was another universe, however when there was the added fact that she was apparently apart of a social experiment it became hard to swallow.
Adding to its difficulty was the level of effort she now had to give to maintain her organs. Perhaps it was her body still adjusting to the environment though she feared it was something worse. That's why her apartment was the first desired stop as it sounded the safest place to be, out of everywhere. Maybe after a moment was taken to settle and order her thoughts it would become easier.
Though she had only made it to the lobby when a seat was required as her breathing became strained. She found one, taking it and clenching the trident tightly. A few moments like this passed before things finally started working as they should.
Chrome breathed out in relief, hoping to stay resting here for a bit longer, though growing weary of being caught off guard like this while her body was so unwilling to move.
