It is so heartbreaking to hear the victim statements coming out of the Avid situation. Even as a viewer who saw the signs months ago when Avid began to vague-post and cut off content creators in ways that did not make sense with the context he would reveal, it is still so much worse than I had thought. While believing victims is important, remember that abusers also often claim to be victims as an abuse tactic. Obviously it can be impossible to parse it out, but in many cases, calmly gathering the context available and using some critical thinking about cultural context can help a little bit. A very openly and obviously gay man being slandered in the same way that gay men have historically been slandered is a red flag, especially when the context revealed about those situations directly contradicts that narrative. While obviously those more socially privileged can be abused by marginalized people, and some of Avid's victims were that too, it's still important to recognize and critique obvious harmful rhetoric being used to manipulate. I am sickened and sad, but so glad that the truth came out and victims can speak up.

People are already blaming Scott for those at The Academy not realizing Pyro and Maddy were kidnapped sooner, and I will not have it. It's well within Pyro's rights to leave as he pleases, but when it becomes a pattern, people will stop worrying when he disappears. It's the boy who cried wolf at this point; the one time it was real, it's too late. Scott's just trying to help his friends not be hurt like he was, worrying that Pyro was dead or hurt when he was totally fine for 8 whole years. Also Scott literally said nothing about Maddy and no one realized she was gone either, so how is that one his fault? If anything, him saying that Pyro left everyone should have made people worry about Maddy disappearing more, since it implied that she wasn't with him and thus could be in danger instead. Free my man, he did nothing wrong!!!
