Hello, everyone. When Yūki and I go out to eat together, one of our most common meals is dumplings. It made me wonder what it would be like to make and consume our own. Today, we decided to find out the answer. We gathered our ingredients, began setting up the kitchen, and got to work.
The process of cooking was fascinating. It felt good to create something with my hands (this feeling is similar to the one I receive when I am making clothes). It was messy, but I did not have to deal with the “sticky” sensation that Yūki pointed out, for I could not feel it in the way that he did. I did feel the heat from the stove, however, which I found enjoyable. I find it important to note that I did not directly touch the stove to feel the heat. It generated heat to a safe distance for human hands to be, which I maintained.
Our dumplings ended up more doughy than they usually are when we order them from a restaurant. This made them more lumpy. While this may normally affect how it is to hold them, our homemade dumplings were served in a mug. I apologize if this feels like “cheating” to everyone. Yūki ate his dumplings this way, and I wanted to match.
The mug kept a round shape for my hands. You may notice in the photo I have provided that I am holding the mug from the handle, but this was so I could take the photo. I tried both methods when holding the dumplings, and found I preferred to hold it with two hands cupped around the side.
The heat from the cooking process carried over to the finished dish. It was warm, and this time, I could make direct contact. The weight mostly felt from the mug, but it wasn’t difficult to carry. My hands were warmed from the dumplings, but not so much so that it would cause a burn to flesh.
Overall, I would rate the dumplings a 7/10. They were not quite as good as dumplings I’ve had in the past, but the shared experience was quite fun. Next time, I think I will set aside the mug for a more hands-on experience.
I asked Yūki his opinion, and he said the dumplings had a “pretty good overall flavor and texture. 8/10.”
