Degen Party

The event last night was super fun, and the Degen team did a great job on the installation! Thanks to all of our friends - old and new- for coming out in the rain, shopping and drinking beers with us! Check out some party pics here.

Studio Visit: Degen

In preparation for our pop-up shop and event this Friday, the Swords-Smith team went to check out the Degen studio in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Lindsay Degen is pretty much the coolest knitter ever, and as expected her studio blew us away. Knitted soft sculptures and sketches were in every nook and cranny, and she has a massive vintage industrial knitting machine that is still in working condition. Degen's signature fun and creativity are evident in her clothing and workspace, and her outgoing personality is contagious. The view from her studio was amazing, as well!

Degen Pop-Up at Swords-Smith!

Friday, April 12th, SWORDS-SMITH will be presenting a special in-store pop-up shop of Degen sweaters and accessories starting at 15% off. In addition to shopping Degen collections and sipping complimentary drinks, the designer will be knitting custom giveaways on-site for you to take home. Come shop, have a drink and explore the knitted world of Degen!

Wolf Forms

The SWORDS-SMITH team took a field trip to Wolf Forms to inspect and measure our dress forms and check out the facility. Wolf is a family business that has been making dress forms in NYC for almost a century, supplying all parts of the industry from designers to fashion schools across the world. They relocated to New Jersey in the 90’s from the Garment Center in NYC.

They use skilled artisans to create each form beginning with pressing paper mache into custom molds that are then cured at 300 degrees in a walk-in kiln. Once extracted, each piece is hand-carved and filed down, adding and subtracting where needed. Then canvas is cut, sewn and stretched over the form. A custom metal rod and stand finishes each form. 

Wolf forms is the kind of business that we love to support. Most of the employees have been there for years. Iris (pictured in the outtakes post) creates the covers by eye. The patterns pictured have not been touched in the 12 years she has been on staff. Their product is expertly made by hand with amazing craftsmanship.
