WE DID IT!!! A Debut: Complete!
PRESS X TO START!
So, we debuted!
It’s crazy to say that after 7 long months of hard work, we finally took the stage. It was exciting, nerve-wracking, and fulfilling all in one. We were the second performers of the day, so that made it all the more terrifying! Not only to be one of the first impressions but also to be able to perfectly see the crowd in broad daylight. Regardless, we all did amazing on that stage and everyone is really really proud of themselves!!
Our setlist was a bit of a mixture of old and new Vocaloid, to really show that we love both and that one of our goals is to bridge the two Vocaloid fan communities since sometimes there’s a sort of rivalry. We all love Vocaloid, so we should celebrate!
This is gonna be a long one, so buckle up!
Setlist Breakdown
Freely Tomorrow
We opened with Freely Tomorrow, a classic Vocaloid hit by Mitchie M. that really sets the vibe for SYNTH as a whole. This was picked particularly by leaders Lucien and Vesperine for multiple reasons. Of course, the aspect that it was fitting for SYNTH was number one. However, looking at the choreo the decision was made due to it being a little challenging but seemingly simple. This was, however, deceptive and did end up being a little more difficult than expected as a first song to learn with a group! However, everyone pulled through and did amazing!
The original choreo lacked movement of positioning changes, so Lucien and Vesperine planned transitionary switches between pairs of Idols in the front while the vocals changed to match! It was a tedious editing process, but in the end was 100% worth it to make the performance elevated just that much more!

Happy Synthesizer
Cherry was the one who suggested this dance, CodeZ agreeing since he thought the song was cool! Being a very OG song with Gumi and Luka, Cherry thought it would be a great choice for the setlist!
This is CodeZ's first ever duo song, and he says, "It made me really happy. Especially doing it with one of my besties. And I got to jump a lot. And it was awesome."
Cherry says, "My first memory of it is playing this on project mirai on my ds and the music video being their little chibis and just thought it was really cute. ... I just think it's like showing how our group has such a mix of old and newer vocaloid and showing how we can have such variety even down to our live shoes so there's a little bit for everyone to enjoy."
With a choreo from MORE MORE JUMP! combined with the OG cover of a classic song, it seemed the crowd really enjoyed the little mashup!
Odo
We settled on Odo since it was relatively newer, and a fun hype song that could stir the audience! In the end, it was a great choice because we have a ton of fun performing the song! The most difficult part of learning it was the fact that the only videos of the choreo were zoomed out, pixelated, not showing the actual dance, etc. etc. So we ended up splicing as many perspectives of the song as we could find together! Only to find out the day before our debut that we had misinterpreted the tiny pixels on the screen. Meanwhile a part of the dance we had to make up entirely remains a mystery. Oh well!
Viva Happy
Originally in its spot was going to be Drop Pop Candy, however it was switched out for this due to both Mars' and Cherry's love for the song!
Mars says, "It's fun and cute! Makes me happy to do a Miku Gumi duo with *Cherry! ... Classic Vocaloid Roots..."
Cherry says, "I think it's a really cutesy song and helps tie together our moe-ness as a group I just really like cuz I used to blast this while cramming through my psychology courses." This song was definitely a hype one both for our lovely performers and the crowd!! While Drop Pop Candy will have its day to return, for now Viva Happy really fit perfectly into this debut!
Erase or Zero
In the words of Jac, "Pretty music? Check. Yaoi? Double check. Erase or Zero was my first non-full-group song so the stakes were high, kinda like the middle school flour baby, but it helped me hone my practice craft for learning *LUVORATORRRRRY!"
For Lucien, this has been a dream song of his since childhood and it makes him very happy to be able to finally perform it!
This song was a choreo mash-up between the concert version and the music video! It took a lot of editing and many... interpretations to get this right. But in the end, it resulted in a completely unique performance for SYNTH's debut.
M@GICAL CURE! LOVE SHOT!
Mars says, "I LOVE Magical Cure Love Shot!! It's so energizing and fun, I love listening to it to wake me up when sleepy and even when feeling down. Miku is so powerful and saves the world!!! She works so hard but it's okay!! And it inspires me to work hard when I'm not feeling well too :)"
Evidenced by the picture of the crowd FALLING OVER to the MIKU MIKU BEAM, it seems they would agree!
LUVORATORRRRRY!
This song was voted on by the group among a few other options! In the end, we all felt that it fit the vibe of the setlist more than the other contenders- and was fun and iconic! The original choreo only had 5 people, and with a group of 7 we had to make slight modifications- namely altering one of the track’s choreo to have a center! It turned out great, but who knows if we’ll make more alterations in the future?
This song was a challenge but so fun to be able to do as a group!
Overall Thoughts
Our setlist really came together in the end and held the perfect vibe for an introduction to our group! We can’t wait to continue improving and performing these songs again and again while also introducing even more new songs to our roster~
If you missed our performance, make sure to check it out on our YouTube channel or via Debut Recap Week on our Instagram!
Speaking of Debut Recap Week!
If you’ve noticed, our instagram has been PACKED with posts this week! We thought that in honor of our debut, we should spend extra time highlighting our performance and especially each of our members who have worked so hard! Hence all of the performance video posts as well as 14 fancams dedicated to our group songs!!
A LOT of editing work went into it, but it’s worth it to properly give attention to all the hard work that we’ve done. In the future, it’s unlikely we’ll be AS in-depth in these recaps, but we always strive to show off our members in any way we can and we have some really special things planned for the end of the month ;)
Post-Debut Q&A
We went ahead and asked each of our members questions regarding their experience in SYNTH thus far and their performance, so you all can have a better idea about our members! Here are the questions and each of their responses~
Q.1 / What made you interested in being apart of SYNTH / What was appealing to you from the get-go?
[Mars] *My very good friends Lucien and Vesper invited me to join!! I loved working with them in the past and was happy and honored to join them on this super cool journey of a brand new Vocaloid group! Vocaloid is such a fascinating art form with one of the most creative communities I’ve ever seen, with nearly endless style possibilities. It’s so neat to be a part of an idol group that celebrates both the classic anime culture that we grew up with and what the new era of Vocaloid continues to create!
[Vesperine] *Well, in terms of creating SYNTH, this has been essentially a dream of mine since I was a literal child. My first ever introduction to Vocaloid was the iconic World is Mine concert from 2012? I think? And after that it was curtains. I was obsessed. And I would spend hours of my time for years learning dances every day and showing off to my family even though they hated the robotic voices of Vocaloids LOL. When it came to some of my favorite group or even duo songs, I longed for others who shared my interests and would dance with me. Now, I’m so happy to say that dream has come to fruition. I sound like a broken record saying it, but I just can’t wait to continue performing with this group. I love every single member, and can’t wait to see us all grow together!
[Vitaminn Vin] *Lucien asked me one night around the beginning of the year if I was interested to be their Meiko. I had to give it some thought only because I haven’t done any group dancing since high school (pre-COVID) & I was yet to debut myself with my drag, but they got me at possibly the right time after my debut and I was able to make the commitment. I also enjoyed Vocaloid music as a young boy so this satisfied my young heart to participate in.
[Jac] *I wanted an excuse to dance and learn more about Vocaloid!
[Cherry] *The sheer fact of being able to do idol stuff that I’ve dreamed about for a while now. The members and other people I’ve met through being in SYNTH have just been the actual highlight of my time here and being in SYNTH also pushing me to finally cosplay Gumi was great since she’s been something I’ve wanted to cos for years.
[Mall] *SYNTH was introduced to me via our leaders I was scouted out and was surprised because I can’t dance but I wanted to give it a try already being in the idol scene as CodeZ as a singer but thought I might as well give dancing a try!
[Lucien] *Well as a co-leader of synth, me and my fellow co-leader vesper have been talking about this for some time even in high school after being a stand in, in an idol group it was finally time to branch out to see what we can do!
Q.2 / Are you new to the Idol scene? Have you ever performed before at all?
[Mars] *I’ve been in the SoCal idol community for about 2 years now (emoji i need to copy paste) I’ve been performing since I was 6 years old!
[Vesperine] *Eeh. I performed a couple times but never anything super official~ As for general performing, I think I’ve always had somewhat of a love for it, which got stronger the older I got! I would always be nagging my teachers about when the talent show was or getting my friends and family to watch me dance. Then, I got into theatre in high school and I absolutely loved every moment of it! So performing is very invigorating to me!
[Vitaminn Vin] *I’m very familiar with performing, and I’m very proud to say I can teach my skills of performing to my own set of students. As of being new to the idol scene? I’d say I’m most definitely new to this world. I’m kind of familiar with how this idol stuff goes down (I was in the 2nd-3rd gen kpop fandom, TRUST)
[Jac] *I did a little theatre before, but this was my first time ever performing in the idol scene.
[Cherry] *I am fairly new to the idol scene only joining an official group early this year. I have had a few performances in the past as a solo idol but its been many many years since then.
[Mall] *I have been a PERFORMER for almost 3 years started in school then once I graduated I started to perform at different anime events such as anime impulse LA/OC, anime days, anime night mart, and many more!
[Lucien] *As stated lol I am not new to the idol scene or performing! And truthfully Idol Matsuri it was the first time a performer for so many years. Not feeling the sense of fear or dread in full honesty.
Q.3 / How did you feel to debut alongside SYNTH at Idol Matsuri 2025?
[Mars] *Honestly magical. We worked so so hard, and were nervous how we’d be received - but everyone was so kind and supportive. I was shocked how much love we got!! I’m so grateful!!!
[Vesperine] *Satisfying. I’m just so happy I’m surrounded by good people who care and who are so so talented. If I told little me that I did this, I know they’d freak out in complete excitement, which is not something I say easily.
[Vitaminn Vin] *I honestly did not know what to make of the vent at first, all I knew was that we were anticipating this event for MONTHS. I think I enjoyed Idol Matsuri a lot more after we hit the stage and saw the crowd interaction. Myself personally, I was surprised to see how close drag shows and idol shows fall into similarities! I had a wonderful time watching all the other idols perform and do their thing, everyone looked so beautiful.
[Jac] *One word; soveryfun!
[Cherry] *Our debut was something that was so nerve wracking but so exciting. Being able to perform with the crowd we had gotten and getting out there and meeting other idols/idol groups was exciting. Our debut went really well and I hope to keep performing and hope the future allows us to have opportunities like this again.
[Mall] *It was so nerve wracking being on stage for the firs time for dancing and not singing it was a lot of fun tho to spent time with the friends i made within the group and watching back out footage from our debut! I’m so proud of all of us and how far we come and the nights we continue to rise up to!
[Lucien] *Performing alongside a group that is organized, well put together, and just so amazing with knowing how hard we all work to look this good when performing was such an actual sparkle moment. Definitely a core memory.
Q.4 / What is something you want to do with SYNTH in the future? (Dream song, dream performance, etc.)
[Mars] *It has always been my dream, since I was a kid, to have a friend to do Drop Pop Candy with me!!! I would love to be able to do a Rolling Girl performance as well. Both of these songs really got me through hard times when I was younger. They mean so much to me <3
[Vesperine] *My biggest dream is to do the End Night song series as a performance with all four songs and all Loids. I think I would cry.
[Vitaminn Vin] *Oooo I’d love to do musunde hiraite rasetsu to mukuro! THat’s a song I really really liked back in the day and it would be a dream to perform to. I would even like to do Romeo and Cinderella just for the sake of it too!
[Jac] *Vocaloid City Pop Orchestral Symphonic Experience.
[Cherry] *A dream song for SYNTH is RPG by soramafuurasaka. It’s been a hyperfixation song of mine for so long. Dream performance for SYNTH would have to be being able to perform at Anime Expos Idol Showcase. I hope in the future we can get into the ALA Idol Showcase as well!
[Mall] *In the future with SYNTH I really want to do a collab with with the idol group within one of my solo set lists as CodeZ. It’s a dream to perform Wish Voyage from Idolish7 with everyone (green heart emoji)
[Lucien] *I NEED NEED synth to do those sleep over cooking videos so badly lol! I used to watch so many cosplay videos where they would bake or make meals in cosplay and I’ve always dreamed of that. And singing lol sneak peak to our future !
Final Thoughts and Next Plans
Overall, this debut went almost as perfectly as it could. While there were several mistakes and things we could have done better, it was all overshadowed by the excitement and the positive feedback we received. SYNTH is a huge believer in the fact that we can always improve, so we hope we can continue to deliver increasingly amazing performances and have fun while doing it!
Thank you SO MUCH for your support on our Debut. We’ll be at Anime Night Mart on October 18th at the Westminster Mall~ We cannot wait to bring yall a spooky themed setlist while also revisiting some of our debut for those that missed out on the experience!
Please continue to cheer us on, it would mean the world <3
