There's this article on the Phoenix New Times titled 10 Tips for Dating a Musician (May 8, 2014) featuring advice from local artists. Lo and behold Jim was quoted for the article (imagine how excited I was).
Everyone else gave tongue-in-cheek or functional answers like, "Prepare to be gossiped about," and, "If you don't like their music, lie," and, "The band is like a full-time job, don't take that personally."
Meanwhile, Jim said this:
"There is a slim-to-zero chance your musician interest will have their shit together on an emotional level," says Jimmy Eat World singer/guitarist Jim Adkins, getting ready for a world tour this month. "That's why they search themselves to communicate in a creative way.
Advice I would give in that situation is what I would tell anyone pursuing a relationship: Get honest with yourself about who you are. Accept wholly who they are. Romanticizing above that is only building expectations. And, expectations are only premeditated resentments."
Ofc so thoughtful and existential (I love him).
