Have you read the book Nothing Feels Good? If you haven’t, I strongly recommend it! The chapter on Jimmy Eat World is so fantastic. Really solidified my impression of them as sweet, hardworking guys who are just happy to be musicians together 🥹 my blorbos are in their 50s

!!!! I haven’t!!! Thank you SO much the rec, I’m absolutely gonna see about getting my hands on it, I’ll read anything with Jimmy Eat World in it. That description makes my heart feel so full 😭 they seem like such good guys

some choice bits of the jimmy eat world chapter from dan ozzi’s book sellout. the whole chapter is excellent but i love the absolute shenanigans this band experienced + jim’s famous last words + pitchfork’s absolutely uncalled for review of clarity

today i’m thinking about!!! early live versions of sweetness— after the bridge, jim would change the first “if you’re listening / sing it back” to “when you kiss me / i sing it back” 🫣 i melt every time (also this performance of sweetness fucking rips)

There's this article on the Phoenix New Times titled 10 Tips for Dating a Musician (May 8, 2014) featuring advice from local artists. Lo and behold Jim was quoted for the article (imagine how excited I was).

Everyone else gave tongue-in-cheek or functional answers like, "Prepare to be gossiped about," and, "If you don't like their music, lie," and, "The band is like a full-time job, don't take that personally."

Meanwhile, Jim said this:

"There is a slim-to-zero chance your musician interest will have their shit together on an emotional level," says Jimmy Eat World singer/guitarist Jim Adkins, getting ready for a world tour this month. "That's why they search themselves to communicate in a creative way. Advice I would give in that situation is what I would tell anyone pursuing a relationship: Get honest with yourself about who you are. Accept wholly who they are. Romanticizing above that is only building expectations. And, expectations are only premeditated resentments."
