Blaxploitation

The Blaxploitation film movement of the early 1970s emerged during a period when Black actors, musicians, and filmmakers were finally occupying leading roles in mainstream cinema. Films from the era celebrated Black fashion, music, sexuality, and confidence with a bold visual style, even as the genre was later criticized for relying on stereotypes and commercial excess.

A modern Blaxploitation-inspired nude photography style borrows the visual language, not the harmful baggage.

Think rich cinematic lighting, deep shadows, saturated colors, vintage interiors, afros, leather, velvet, gold jewelry, funk records, muscle cars, smoky rooms, and subjects who command the frame with confidence. Nudity isn’t presented as spectacle—it’s part of a portrait of power, beauty, vulnerability, and self-possession.

The goal isn’t to imitate exploitation.

It’s to celebrate Black bodies with the same cinematic grandeur that made the era unforgettable while telling stories on the subject’s own terms.

The camera doesn’t take power away.

It gives it back.

Fuck dispensaries TBH.

Corporate cannabis is the literal worst. Don’t get me wrong I get why dispensaries exist but the barriers to entry are so expensive that the people who built the culture are often the least likely to own a piece of the industry. Licensing fees, real estate costs, compliance, legal expenses… by the time you’re done, you need deep pockets just to get in the door.

Then you get “equity” programs that make for great press releases but, in a lot of places, still leave people struggling to secure funding, locations, or long-term support.

Cannabis deserved legalization. That doesn’t mean the business that grew around it is beyond criticism.
