The look Viktor gives him is one of pity, expression softening for a mere fraction of a second before he falls back to impassive emptiness. This affection he felt, that he still feels - it burns in his chest like a raging fire. This weakness, because he can think of it as little else, is so unforgiving. It takes everything he has to will it away, even as Jayve raises his weapon against him. Viktor waits, pale eyes glittering with the swirling color of the volatile magic within the hammer. "By all means, Jayce. Correct your mistake." Viktor gestures to himself, leaning into his staff. He wonders if he will. He wonders just how far his partner is willing to go to fix things. The Commune members, once gathered like soldier bees hovering around their queen at the threat of danger, now turn to leave in their strange, synchronized union. Viktor's mind is calm, a lake in a windless valley.
He turns away ( for the second time ).
He hears it more than he feels it, the sudden discharge of magic that clips his side, tearing away at flesh and searing bone, burning the skin where it doesn't take from it. Fuzzy insistence washes over Viktor as he crumples to the ground, touching his blistering skin with fingers that feel detached from his body. He cannot comprehend the raw bone, the blood so dark it looks black, the parts of him that spill out onto the ground and stain the beautiful flowers. All he sees, all he is aware of, is that the Commune members are suddenly swarming Jayce like ants. They seek to disarm him, to hold him still - but they're disorganized. Viktor isn't focused, his mind feels heavy, he doesn't think he has much life left in him. He's proud of Jayce, deep down.
A man of progress indeed.
