My postal ballot hasn't arrived and when I called the AEC they said that there have been people stealing ballots out of letter boxes to stop people from voting. I've arranged for a new one to arrive next week, but I am still left with a sadness that there are people so opposed to the idea of equal rights that they would take away people's right to choose.❤️💛💚💙💜 Living in Marrickville and working in Newtown, I have seen so many people taking to the streets to urge people to vote yes with posters, graffiti, and even protest floats blasting "you're the voice" driving up and down king st. While I am so happy that this is the case, it is not the reason that I will be voting yes once my ballot arrives. I will be voting yes for the three glorious people pictured here. My courageous, funny, wise, witty uncles Sean and Owen have gone through so much to bring their shining Indigo into the world. The love they have for one another has made it possible for them to create a family. They are one of the strongest couples I have ever known and the fact that they are not allowed to participate in one of the greatest celebrations of unity in our culture is deeply saddening. It is easy to look at the bigger social picture and disengage because you don't want to be "on the bandwagon" so to speak, but remember that this vote is about real people. Real people who are just as deserving of these rights as the rest of us. I know that this whole process is fucked and we don't necessarily know it will affect real change, but we are being given an opportunity to have a say, so sure as hell will be saying YES because love is love. ❤️💛💚💙💜
