Mignola Monsters!
I asked a client for her logo.
She printed out a document Word doc that had the logo in it (it apparently was designed in Word), scanned it as a jpeg, and inserted that jpeg into a new .doc file.
By the time I got it, it was blurry, cut off, and nearly indecipherable.
When I think about how misguided every step of this process was, I shudder.
The worst part of this one is that it’s not a surprise or shock for me. This is my daily life working at a local copy center. Old ladies working as secretaries or for small churches do the most terrifying things using only Word and a 10 year old printer/scanner or decades old church copier.
The worst is when they get facebook involved and use it to store and download files. It’s a mix of creativity and incompetence that is maddening.
I am beyond ready for Autumn!
I’m the cat.
What are you looking at? Keep scrolling.
I was working at a promotional product company as their graphic designer and I had created a design for a customized bracelet.
Client: Can you make that black blacker?
Me: Well…it’s as black as it can go.
Client: No…make it blacker.
Me: It really is as black as it can go.
Client: How do you know for sure? It doesn’t look very black to me.
Me: (knowing they wouldn’t know what this meant and HOPING it would shut them up) Because the hex code is #000000.
Client: Do you expect me to know what all of your coding words are? Just make it blacker, please.
Me: (later, after not changing a damned thing) …Okay, I made it blacker.
Client: (takes a look) MUCH better!
I had this one last week except in printing. They had ordered cards from vistaprint that had been printed in a dark gray, but they wanted a black. I explained again and again that no matter what trick I used there were limits to what digital printing could do and that it would never be a perfect black and never be matte without them spending hundreds on something extra special. I gave them an estimate of the cost for the special printing they would need and how no one in this state could do it, explained it would be more practical to find someone to print in white on matte black card (but still too expensive and rare), but then their color logo wouldn’t work.
They wanted it blacker.
I used the CMYK color 60,40,40,100 which is the best damn black you can get with CMYK. You’re mixing in other colors to make the black thicker and darker than 100% allows, it’s more than 100% black! You can’t get that with vistaprint. It came out as this thick pitch black coating but with the slight gloss I told them a dozen times was unavoidable.
“I don’t mean the gloss, but are you sure this is as black as it can get? Can you make it blacker?”
What do these people even think they want? Where have they seen this secret blackness on everyday things that graphic designers don’t know about? Are they wanting designs that reflect the darkness they see in their own souls?
They also wanted a two color custom foil on the other side of the card which was something I was able to shoot down by telling them how it would take a month and $600 (per person’s card) plus the design cost of recreating their logo without the terrible “metallic” gradient so foil could be used.
Helpful!

antifa: we need to stop white supremacists from advocating their hate
white supremacists, after months of hard work and counter protesting from anti fascists: we are too afraid to show our faces in public
moderates: see there never was a white supremacy problem in the first place
also white supremacists:
To clarify, this *just happened*, Aug 7th, 2018. This is not old news. This is from an interview after the election: —– West told the Star Thursday that he wanted to talk about his platform and suggested his recorded statements may have been taken out of context. He said he believes all men are created equal, but that he finds fault with some ideologies, such as Islam and Judaism. When asked about Jewish people in Missouri, he said, “Well, maybe they shouldn’t vote for me.” —– He literally couldn’t keep his mouth shut on his bigotry for all of 15 seconds.
God, not this clickbait article again. I agree with everything here and what I’m saying is mostly unrelated from what the OP is saying, but this clickbait title paints Missouri unfairly and needs clarification. This is no big win for nazis, just an embarrassing mistake by apathetic Republicans who are going to pay for it in November.
He won a primary in a county that Republicans always lose by a heavy margin, and he was the only one of the candidates who bothered to campaign. People on reddit stated he was the first on the ballot for them (someone correct me if that bit is wrong). On top of that everyone was worried about a right to work bill (which we as a state shot down with over 2/3rds majority) and most Republicans were just ticking the first red box they vaguely recognized. More people in that county voted for this guy’s upcoming democrat opponent than voted for all the republicans on his ticket combined. He might as well have been running as a Libertarian candidate.
He’s a racist piece of shit but he’s nobody important or relevant. Other than that, OP is right.
ITS AFRAID
Galaxy brain: the reason people bring up Harry Potter as examples for nearly everything isn’t because they haven’t read anything else but because it’s the only book series their entire generation has read.
Alien Cat Princesses!
I just got my commission from @deepfriedthingsstuff for a couple of my starfinder NPCs Nea (pink) and Nalla (purple). They turned out so cute just like everything they draw. At this rate they’ll have drawn all of the game’s characters as commissions.
I only did the colors myself. I’m not a fan of how I did the shading, I just rushed and botched it and cheated with a sparkle brush. The flats are better. I was going to be more creative with the coloring but my own lines are never this nice and it didn’t feel right.
These two were last seen tricking the party into fighting goblin pirates while they made off with the dreamy space prince!
Now I feel like I should clean up and post some more stuff from my starfinder game. Maybe stuff I’ve actually drawn myself.
Boxxy doesn’t deserve this.
Everyone’s like “those Germans have a word for everything” but English has a word for tricking someone into watching the music video for Rick Astley’s Never Gonna Give You Up.
English has a lot more words created for very specific phenomena! It’s not just rick-rolling. Language is always evolving and it’s super interesting! Here’s a list of hyper-specific/untranslatable words in English.
The worst thing about this is that for once I didn’t click the link because the joke is way too obvious, but at the same time I would absolutely love to read an article about that so I almost clicked it in trying to convince myself that maybe it was real. This is not fair.
