It wasn’t very often that Beau and Stella voluntarily spent time away from each other, but occasionally they were persuaded into nights out with friends, which is exactly what had happened tonight when Cora convinced Stella to go out drinking. It was good for Beau to have some alone time, and it wasn’t too hard for him to come up with things to keep him occupied for a little while. Naturally, Beau was a very paranoid person and as it started getting late, Beau found himself sitting and staring at the door, waiting impatiently for his girlfriend. He tried to remind himself how safe Stella would be with Cora, but he couldn’t shake the idea that she was unprotected without him by her side and it took all of the little self control he had to keep himself from bolting up out of his chair and running to look for them.

To Beau, who had obsessively hoarded clothing ever since he was five years old, the worst part of the move was deciding which things were important enough to bring with them and which would have to be left behind. Nonetheless, he still found it essential to bring duplicates of the same pieces of clothing despite the fact that he wore the same thing almost every day.

“Stella..” Beau whined, face down in a pile of black skinny jeans, “I can’t find the papers anywhere. They’re gone forever. We’re going to die,” he cried dramatically. The place was a mess as Beau had dumped the contents of every bag they had brought with them in a massive search for the oh-so-important rolling papers. 

Beau kicked all his clothes aside, grumpily sitting upright and crossing his arms. “The last time I was sober for this long I was like fucking fifteen years old or something,” he grumbled, exaggerating like always. “What if we left them all at home? What if we have to be sober forever?”

Beau was raised to believe that there was no occasion too small to throw a large elaborate party, although, now of course the types of parties he threw were quite different than the ones his mother organized. Beau was very impressed with himself and the amount of money that he had brought in during the week of 4/20, so naturally he celebrated by throwing a party in his small apartment and inviting nearly everyone he knew.  Beau was very fond of attending parties, but having a party of his own was always special. He enjoyed all the attention that it brought him, especially attention from girls. In the past, that had always been the best part, especially because it was so easy for him to convince a few of them to stay for an “after party” conveniently located in his bedroom.

This time, however, as he had one girl hanging off his arm and several others trying to take her place, he kept looking around, trying to think of some way to ditch them and find Stella, who had somehow disappeared among all the other people in their living room. He had never realized how dull these types of girls were until he found himself missing the sarcastic comments from Stella.

Beau groaned a little, walking over to the kitchen to get another drink, or really anything to help him tune out the girl that was talking his ear off. He had stopped listening a long time ago, but still she rambled on despite the lack of attention he was giving her and he wondered how much cocaine the girl had taken.

Beau was good at a very specific set of things. That set of things included arguing politics, making connections with people, ruining connections with people, and dealing. That set of things did not include cooking or humility. Therefore, Beau decided that after binge watching Iron Chef America on netflix (while mostly high) that he was fully capable of making dinner, despite the fact that the most adventurous cooking he had ever done was add cinnamon to his ramen noodles. For whatever reason, Stella agreed to not only allow this, but to join in.

Beau sat up on the kitchen counter, looking through his phone. “What should we make for dinner?” he asked Stella, lacking the foresight necessary to actually plan ahead of time.
