✰✰ BACK TO LIFE
"I'm hungry.." Kise's complaint fell on deaf ears -- okay, bad joke, but the guy was dead anyway, and whatever had killed him had eaten his soul too. Kise's meal, taken by whatever thing the idiot who summoned him had pissed off before. Now, if Kise had been summoned to ward off or protect from the attacker, he might feel a bit bad, but the man's wish had been entirely material gain. Boring and easy and not worth being actively summoned.
The trouble was, it took energy to be summoned. He didn't want to go back to his own realm hungry, he needed a soul and the one he'd been promised had obviously been promised to something else first.
With a huff of annoyance he kicked the husk of a corpse lightly and left it to its decomposing, resigning himself to the annoyingly low-class task of finding a random human who would want something enough to give up at least some of their soul. He could sense the negative energy of humans, so it wasn't hopeless, it was just a matter of finding the right person with enough unhappiness and a willingness to give up their soul to fix it. Or just someone corrupt enough to not give a shit, but after that last guy, Kise wanted a soul that he might actually get.
He'd been wandering for hours, well into the afternoon, before he got a bite that felt promising. He followed the 'scent' of negativity to the sound of a ball hitting concrete, the rattle of the hoop... he hadn't followed much in the human world, but sports had always held an interest for him, the pure passion of an athlete was enticing and they tended to care so much about their games that losing their soul wasn't a big deal.
It was an outdoor basketball court, like he'd thought -- as he came up, the ball circled the rim of the hoop and rebounded, by instinct he caught the ball and tossed it in before facing the one who'd thrown it originally. As he'd expected, this was the source of the negative energy, no doubt about it. Young, too -- he'd taste good. Kise smiled at the human, instantly turning the charm up, the natural kind and the demon variety that had an influence in loosening human lips to the truth.
"Whoa, what an intense aura," he laughed, throwing the ball back. "Letting out some aggression?"
