Some quick notes about Sio’s species/culture before work :V
- Dioskyuri is the race as a whole, divided into two economical classes: The Kastor and the Pollyx.
- The Kastor are the working-class/poor. They were once considered slave labor, but gained their independence in a recent civil war.
- The Pollyx consist of former aristocrats, but have generally retained enough money to be considered upperclass in comparison.
- There’s no fundamental difference in anatomy between the Kastor and the Pollyx. The class divide is based off of who each group is mythologically descended from between a pair of brothers (a mere mortal and a divine being incarnate).
Adult Kastor can usually be recognized by the ornate, red tattoos that mark their hands. These tattoos are the end result of a coming of age ritual. Adult Pollyx do not carry these markings, having abandoned the ritual long ago bc they feel it is ‘barbaric.’
- Dioskyuri are an intersex species. It is common for members to identify as female, male, agender, or all-gendered. It is considered a basic right for each gender to have their own bathroom (female, male, androgynous) , regardless of class.
The only restrictions on gender identity are beuracracy-based. In that, there is a lot of paperwork to go through if someone wishes to identify as something else. The redtape is mainly to discourage Kastor individuals from disrupting the reproduction program.
just a thought while my mind is on Sio:
although he struggles w English and tends to stick to short, to-the-point dialog, he’s actually rather eloquent in his native language. it’s just the unfamiliarity and vast differences between his language and English that does him in.
@lawfulswampy // Hajari plans to. Tall, dark, and wolfy makes him happy --and without drugs either :y
I don't think I've ever said but I find it hard to ship Hajari w anyone bc of the magnetic way he and his on/off gf, Tatum, are drawn to each other. The pull of familiarity and the promise of someone that knows him in his entirety is incredibly tempting for Hajari... bc it's safe and bc he doesn't have to pretend around Tatum. He can't pretend around her. She knows his tricks and how he hides and confronts him when she knows he'd rather slink into a hole to die. But their relationship isn't necessarily good... It's like a time loop for them both; they immediately revert to the people they used to be when together. And the same story beats happen and they end up fighting long, hard, and nasty. And the relationship deteriorates again... and again... and again. That's why I'm glad whenever Hajari (--Tatum too, if she ever gets shipped w someone--) finds someone else... like Jamie. It breaks the cycle and forces the both of them to move on.
and now I’m just thinking about the ocs that have object/thing names rather than something a little more... name-y.
Alamo -- directly named after the monument. Bonus points for her nickname being “Peanut.”
Hammer -- a case of self-naming since they do have a legitimate name. But most don’t know it so... going to make this a 1/2 point.
K -- bc in SH K stood for Kelvin. He was named after the measuring system and not the person who the measuring system was based on.
Kid -- just, Kid.
Moon Shine -- his name came before an explanation for it did. one of the rare cases where the name got justified through canon development.
Nausea -- started as an in-joke and has never had a canon explanation. Hoping to keep it that way.
Pestilence -- Anju in SH, but it counts bc that was her name.
Tsurugi -- Rugi was named after a sword in their native language and then just went and named themselves after another sword when they got to Earth.
The Twins -- triple points, one for the collective title and two more for them being North and South respectively. Orrrrr No and Yes if I’m thinking about their other canon.
I also have a personal story where the characters have not name-names. Some examples being -- Scramble, Fen, Corona (who had an older brother named Kahlua), and Malevolence. Most of them were gajinka’d farm animals. Make of that what you will.
Sometimes I try to think about what Titus would be like if they weren't immortal... and tbh I feel like if they'd be ditzier. I mean they'd still be charismatic and vain as shit, but instead of being straight-up toxic they'd just fit right into the Plastics. That's what they're like in my Titus Is A Terrible Dad joke au. No common sense and too much money and time on their hands.
Hat: as a non-related sidebar, Naoki went on to name his cat from SH "The Devil." which just goes to show his naming sense when Keeley's not around to conveniently name things for him
Kip: what was his motivating factor to naming it that fff
Hat: following Naoki Logic, it's because the cat is very cute. and anything cute is clearly the work of Satan, which is why Kyary is most likely a high-level demon straight from the pits of hell and anime is the satanic religion that binds together humanity's most abhorrent people
Hat: especially moe anime made by KyoAni
Kip: alright i cant argue with that
Hat: also the cat was still a gift from Emilio. and Emilio is also the work of Satan. but Emilio finds such accusations offensive and texts Naoki sad emojis whenever they remind him of his status as an unholy abomination
