glory war | mini event & kagami
Over time, he’s become a near professional at plucking and pulling the right strings until his personality suits the situation — until the finishing touches leave him godlike; until he’s hollowed out a golden shine and painted the cosmos across the backs of everyone’s eyelids.
He’d be lying if he said this scene didn’t suit him — falsified godheads and smiles tweaked to perfection; overly exuberant mingling and thousands of strangers pretending holding themselves to a standard, pretending everyone mattered more than they truly did. (Everyone had their vices — if nothing else, his was the attention he earned from magazine spreads and dolled up features.)
One glass of champagne secures more than enough dances with names and faces he can’t recall — filmy blurs and cat scratch memories that fade with each tip of the glass, each glide of his feet. Two ensures that Kasamatsu leaves him in the midst of the crowd, grumbling something about not being enough room between Kise and his ego (he’d have taken offense to it if he wasn’t still bubbly from the champagne).
Kise loses himself in the adoration — in the offered business cards and affluent smiles that make him weak in the knees, reaching for more, more, more. However, the sight of a very disastrous head of hair draws him back from the sea of needless attention, leaving him open mouthed and gaping for a second.
Only a second, because then he’s apologizing and excusing himself and squeezing his way through the crowd, only to catch Kagami’s retreating figure by the palm of his hand (fingers clamping around his wrist and twirling him around).
"Kagamicchi, wow, hey! I didn’t really know this was your kind of thing, but I guess you’ve always been full of surprises, huh?"
(He smiles bright and glasgow and overwhelming — and he can’t help it if the champagne is making him jittery, fingers itching and cheeks flushed.)
"Are you enjoying yourself, then?"
