In the noisy town of Goldenrod, it was strange to find a moment it was strange to find a place so quiet. Perhaps, it might have been because of all of the Starbucks that had been popping up all over the city, effectively shutting down plenty of smaller cafes, but it didn't mean that they were all gone. There was one close by the Magnet Train but far enough not to hear most of its noise, tucked away in a not so traveled corner of the city hiding about. This one had been surviving quite well. Its busiest ours during the daylight shift. It wasn't only the coffee that lured people in. There were small treats as well at half the cost that the other company kept.

It was quiet during the night shift, which suited her just fine. It suited the woman, the only one who dared work at this hour, well enough. She didn't mind staying up during the nights and sleep during the days. Even her demeanor was enough to suggest such a thing, considering how seriously she took such a 'minor' job.

Still, they could have used more than just a book she'd read over twenty times this shift to read.

At the sound of the door's quiet chime, a wine red gaze lifted from the book they'd been reading. It was a regular at the cafe, a strange one considering the time, but it was better to have a customer than none. There would be little point to the shift if she didn't have any, not that the pay was all that great. It was simply better to keep busy than to stay idle for extended periods of time.

She gave a nod, signaling that she had noticed his arrival before closing thebook she'd been reading and allowing it to rest on the table. It was then that she stood, smoothing out her apron before heading behind the counter to take his order.

The bells chimed and she knew it was time for everyone to head inside the gym. Doors, windows, and whatever else were heavily covered with all they could find--which wasn't much considering how sparingly its gym leader decorated the place.

It didn't always used to be like this. Just a few months ago, Saffron City was as shining as the name it was given. Now, the Magnet Train had been closed down. Their ties to Johto cut and blocked with the remnants of what had been the passengers of the last train. Its streets were marred with an array of red and brown. Bits and pieces no one dared to pick up were left. Even the bells were a new feature to the city, calling as a warning to its citizens to come to the gym or be left in eternal darkness as those creatures would come out and conquer.

In the city where Kanto's chaos had began, it became the epicenter of the epidemic. It was here that the virus had mutated and changed impossible ways that were difficult to destroy without light or various cruel ways of eliminating them. There was no cure for a virus created by man.

Although the very leader of the gym that housed the survivors, she did not exclude herself from participating in the efforts to eliminate the threat. Her pokemon would teleport as many as they could away. The injured, the old, the young, each were sent to Johto. The infected--well, this woman was a cold one, it was nothing she hadn't done before. Human or pokemon, as soon as the infected got the taste of their blood, they would never be let go.

She was determined to bring her city back to it's rightful glory. No matter if the resources and time were not enough.

Attention shifted from the dimming sun to the movement just out of her line of sight. Her hands rose at an instant, glowing, prepared to sent waves of power towards their direction. The pokemon at her side, an Alakazam was prepared to do the same. Even if they had the feeling of a human, it was difficult to trust strangers in this land. The sympathizers often became sacrifices, tricking others to follow and die for them.

It wouldn't be until after the male had stepped close enough for speaking distance that she spoke. "State your name and purpose." The woman spoke coolly, keeping her sanguine gaze on the stranger. Her team mates kept their own on their surroundings. It wasn't safe to be out in the open. It never was. They should have known that, but their clothing was different. Matching that of another region's and warmer than it should be in this one.

The name should have been plastered on every corner. Her city practically screamed saffron as even its sidewalks were paved with the shining color.

So there was someone out there that shared the same sentiments as she did. These common societal rules were so incredibly restricting, objectifying those with strength to become mere tools to be handled with knifes held against their back if they had turned any other way. Her lips pressed together tightly. “It is, isn’t it?”

It was a bit troublesome sometimes, the way she seemed to attract flocks of people. Usually her reputation of being cold, if not for her so called ‘past’ affiliation with Team Rocket, kept others away or at the very least the distance that she had preferred and grown comfortable with. Perhaps she had been too soft lately? That would have to change soon enough, but this man might prove to be interesting. As far more than a head scientist of another organization, he could hold something that may be of interest. Of course, this didn’t mean that she would allow him to keep her. “No, but I may extend an invitation to you instead.” He should be grateful, she offered such a thing to very few.
