just some miscellaneous stuff about Spectrolite. last night’s rp sort of got me thinking.

outside of her escape from Kindergarten, Spectrolite has no other prior experiences with Gems. she was alone in her travels and did not meet anyone until arriving on Doloven. this is the first time she’s interacted with other Gems and quite often she doesn’t know what to make of those she’s met.

continuing from the above, she’s very ignorant of Gem culture because of her lack of experience. if asked simple questions like ‘Who is Yellow Diamond?’ or ‘What is a Peridot’s purpose?’ she would not be able to answer them. this can lead her to being insensitive towards others’ struggles because she lacks a frame of reference for their conflicts. (ex: not knowing Pearls are viewed as accessories/servants and how that can weigh on them psychologically, being unaware that fusion outside of one’s Gem type is considered an action worthy of shattering)

she doesn’t understand fusion --not just on an emotional level, but as a concept altogether. she gets that it’s something Gems can do... but beyond that it makes little sense to her. she’s heard it’s for intimacy and she’s heard it’s for practicality. she’s heard it’s something that just kind of happens sometimes. the varying explanations confuse her and, generally, she will avoid bringing up fusion as a topic because she doesn’t want to be bombarded with even more descriptions. that and it’s a guaranteed way to fluster her because she gets frustrated at her own lack of understanding. at the moment she prefers to just observe fusions and fusing from afar. that way she can gather information and slowly form an opinion herself when the time comes.

Spectrolite is a mistake, in that she was meant to be one Gem and developed into a different one. that’s part of the reason her physical state is a mess (...that and I like to be punny). fusing with her could prove to be dangerous, if it’s even possible. it’s incredibly likely that whatever fusion came out of the union would be unstable.

she smells artificially sweet, like fruity body wash.

there’s an echoing quality to her voice. she singsongs her words, drawing out vowels in something of a howl or yodel.

she developed something of a small crush on the Labradorite that helped her escape. she’s already come to terms with the fact that she will probably never see them again (years of traveling alone in space can do that for you). but the crush has influenced her ‘type’ and she’s become a fangem for Labradorites (or ‘Labs’ as she affectionately refers to them).

I went ahead and submitted the rp app! Hopefully it looks okay. I reused the pic of Spectrolite that’s already on here so... nothing to post art-wise. But I’ll share the info I stuck on the app.

Name: Spectrolite Alignment: Dolomite and Her Court Rank: Pawn Gender: Agender Gem Type: Feldspar Gem Location: Lower torso, spanning between the lower part of a human's ribcage to the belly button area. Height: Varies Weapon: ? Spectrolite has difficulty maintaining her general form. Most of her energy goes into keeping herself semi-corporeal. She may very well possess a weapon, but at the moment she can't muster enough power to summon it. Unique Abilities: She can float as well as pass through solid objects. Special Power: It's not so much a power, but Spectrolite is relatively intangible. She's transparent and it's possible to stick your arm through her --though she would prefer if you didn't because it's kind of forward. Since she can't maintain her form well, she's not a great shapeshifter. It's pretty common to see her abstract, which can vary from her legs fusing together to resembling a cloud. Personality: Spectrolite is always living in the moment and once that moment has passed, she moves on to a new one. That's not to say that she has a short attention span. Rather, there's just so much to do and so much to see in this universe that she doesn't feel she has the time to dally for long. She's instinctive and impulsive. Often times she doesn't think about the consequences her actions can have. Sometimes this makes her a pretty petty Gem. But for the most part, she means well. History: Spectrolite is a gem aberration and was originally meant to be a Labradorite. When the overseer of her Kindergarten noticed she was off, they quickly attempted to shatter her gem. She was able to escape through the help of a Labradorite who she unfortunately lost contact with after fleeing. Spectrolite eventually heard rumors of a haven for Gems that did not meet the Diamond standard. Shortly after, she found her way to Dolomite's court. While she does not have a fierce attachment or loyalty to Dolomite she respects her cause and the compassion that drove her to help other Gems. Synchronizing Style/Fusion Dance: She can't dance. It's a physical impossibility. But Spectrolite tends to "swim" around her fusion partner in a way that makes her resemble a mermaid. Other: She's very young by Gem standards... not even a century old.

doesn't have an origin yet, but Spectrolite is an aberration that has difficulty manifesting a corporeal form. because of this she can’t shapeshift well and tends to turn into abstract blobs. her gem bobs up and down within her torso as though it’s suspended in some sort of gelatinous liquid. it’s entirely possible to stick your hand right through her, but she’d prefer if you didn’t because that’s kind of forward.
