The First Day || Rapunzel, Lily & Texas || Drabble
Rapunzel was in the kitchen, fixing lunch for Lily and packing it in a brown paper bag. She made her a PB&J sandwich, put in a bag of grapes, and a juice box. It was nothing too strenuous, but it was the perfect lunch for their daughters first day of school.
Texas walked in with a worried expression on his face, his hand in a loose fist covering his mouth, and he began to pace the kitchen.
"Babe, what are you so worried about?" asked Rapunzel, peering over her shoulder at her husband.
Tex looked up, bringing the hand that covered his mouth up to run it through his hair, sighing as he did so. Then, he shrugged. "I'm not."
Rapunzel quirked a brow and turned around, leaning against the counter and folding her arms across her chest. "Then explain the pacing," she replied with a slight chuckle in her voice.
He sighed, flinging out his arms to his side before slowly bringing them down and shoving his hands in his pockets. "What if she doesn't like it?"
Rapunzel shook her head, her smile growing wide. She unfolded her arms and took a few steps over to him gently wrapping her arms around him - including his own arms - and smiled up at him. "Tex, she's five. It's her first day. She knows a few of her classmates from the children in the Kingdom, and I met with her teacher last week. She'll be fine," she told him, her voice soft as always. She unclasped her hands so she could push his hair back.
Texas sighed again, nodding his head and placing his hands on her hips. She was right - Lily loved to learn and socialize with the other kids in Corona, and he knew damn well how excited she was the night before, going on and on about how fun school was going to be.
"Yeah, yeah... You're right," he muttered.
She went up on her tiptoes and gently pecked him on the lips. "Of course I am," she smirked, patting his chest before pulling away to finish Lily's lunch. Tex followed and leaned his back against the counter, his smile widening as Lily walked into the room wearing a light blue sundress, dress shoes and her hair in pig-tails.
"Hey, Lils. Ready for school?" he asked, walking towards her to pick her up. Once he held her in his arms, he placed a kiss on his cheek, which made her smile.
"Uh huh!" she squealed.
A few minutes later, the three of them walked Lily to her school, with Leilani in the middle of her parents, each of them holding her hand. Her backpack was a bit too big for her, but she'd grow into it. When they got to the school, which wasn't too far - it was close to the center of town, they let go of her hands.
Rapunzel bent down to give Lily a brief, but tight, hug. "Have fun today, okay?" she told her, pulling away and smiling softly at her daughter.
Lily nodded eagerly. "Okay, mommy!"
Rapunzel brought her in for another hug. "I love you, dear," she mumbled to her, kissing the top of her head before standing up again, letting Tex take his turn.
He knelt down, and Leilani ran into his arms, and he held her tightly, screwing his eyes shut. "I love you, daddy!" she told him.
"Love you, too, Lils." He tightened his arms around her before pulling away, kissing her forehead gently. "Go have fun."
She smiled brightly before turning around and running through the doors of the school, waving to some of the other children who were almost as excited as she was. Almost.

Despite the fact the couple walked their daughter to school that morning, they allowed her to take the bus home. Rapunzel sat on the sofa, rereading one of her books, and Tex began pacing the living room, his lips pursed together. He looked at the clock and grunted.
"She's late. Something's happened!" he exclaimed, bringing his hands up to his head.
Rapunzel looked up from her book for a moment before closing it and placing it on the arm of the couch. She got up and walked over to the window, let out the slightest chuckle and walked up to him.
"Texas, the bus just pulled up. Relax, baby, it has other stops to make before us." She kissed his cheek, "She's fine," she murmured to him.
Rapunzel turned away to open the door for Lily, who's smile was brighter than it was that morning. She ran inside, throwing her backpack onto the floor, and she was holding two pieces of paper. Texas let out a sigh of relief. She led them to the sofa, making them sit next to each other as she stood in front of them, jumping in place from excitement.
"Mommy! Daddy! I had sooo much fun today!" she began, holding the papers in her hands firmly. "I made lots and lots of friends!! There's Mitch and Brenda and Casey and Johnny!" Her excitement made her parents smile.
"That's great, honey!" Rapunzel stated as Lily took a few seconds to breathe.
"Oh! I also drew these for you!" their daughter chimed, handing each of them the papers. "One's a flower and the other's a sun," she explained. Tex and Rapunzel looked at the drawings, and although they were mainly scribbles, they loved them.
"These are going on the fridge," Tex said, smiling at Rapunzel. She handed him the one she was holding and he got up to put them on the refrigerator before coming back into the room.
"I can't wait to go back!!"
