A birthday gift from daddibal, beautifully wrapped, of course. Though it looks simple in design, the item is vintage. Expensive. A father wants to make sure his daughter is always prepared in the most aesthetic way possible 😌

As Fish carefully unwrapped her gift, she let out an enthusiastic little "ooooh". The knife was beautiful, in fact, it was probably the loveliest knife she had ever seen in her life. She obviously had a penchant for the ocean, but she also happened to favor knives over any other weapon. It was the perfect gift.

"It's beautiful! Thank you Dad!" she exclaimed happily, jumping out of her chair to hug her father.

While she seemed a little bit young to be gifted a knife, nothing could be more normal in the Lecter household. After all, she had learned to use such tools when she was only 5 years old and was now quite skilled with them.

Oh, she couldn't wait to use her gift.

"And I don't have the right to ask where you go at night," mused Lucy Gray, fingers mindlessly dancing on the piano, "but sometimes I wonder."

He was a riddle she struggled to solve. He intrigued her, but she had always liked things she couldn't trust. Snakes, alcohol, Billy Taupe, Coriolanus... And Hannibal? He was a victor, just like her. And she knew what it meant, to be in this arena. She knew the cost of victory. She still dreamed of Jessup.

She wanted to know Hannibal more and yet didn't really dare. One step forward, two steps back. She turned to look at him, heavy brown curls falling around her face.

"Do you wonder about me?"

Nature seemed alive, lately. Something in the whispering of the wind, the rustling of branches, the grass dancing at her feet, and the piercing eyes of owls, observing her from their high perches. She felt watched, studied almost. Like an ant crawling under a magnifying glass.

But it was better than the cabin. It was better than the hunger, the hollow eyes of her teammates. Here, out in the wilderness, Fish could pretend to have a purpose still, a direction. She knew nothing about hunting or foraging, but she spent hours outside, looking for food, anything. She followed tracks, she climbed trees, she tried running away from the madness slowly but surely creeping into the rotting wood of the cabin.

The air was crisp, heavy with the threat of winter. What would happen then? No more berries and mushrooms. No more animals to catch, twist their necks and feed them to her teammates like a mother bird regurgitating food for its babies.

She had been following tracks for more than an hour now, sinking deeper and deeper into the woods. Had she been more knowledgeable in hunting, she'd have noticed something was off about the traces left in the mud. But she wasn't, and so she kept going, stubborn and hungry.

And there, in a clearing, she saw It.

The beast was bigger than any deer she had ever seen before. A monstrous yet beautiful creature, with too many legs and too many antlers, as if her eyes played tricks on her. She blinked and blinked, always failing to grasp the vision in its entirety. Blood was dripping from its antlers, the soft skin softly falling to reveal red, pulsating flesh.

Fish wanted to scream but her throat was dry, her heart pounding in her chest. "Who are you?" she asked, somehow fearing she knew the answer.

Head tilted, Harleen examined her brother. She smiled, as she so often did. She did not hate Hannibal, in fact she cared a lot about him. It was her father she blamed, it was her father who had abandoned her mother and her. And never mind that poison had been dripping into her heart like an IV, day after day, every time Kronos spoke. Her resentment had always been there, in the end. 

“Nothing I wasn’t born to do,” she happily replied, as if she had not just driven three demigods to madness -and now they were curled up on the floor, wailing in despair, or was it pain? “This is the gift our dad gave me, right? I’m just using it.”

“You don’t get it,” she pouted, shaking her head and crossing her arms, “why side with the gods? What did they ever do for us? They fuck our moms or dads, and then they leave. They don’t care about us. Our dad? He’s only at camp because he was forced to!”

She walked towards her brother, extending her arms as if inviting him in for a hug, “come on, just join us, Hannibal. It’s not as fun without you.”

There had never been a volunteer before. This unique occurrence had of course startled the Capitol, but surprise had soon been replaced by a frantic excitement. Tigris, who had recently became a stylist for District 1 (her cousin would have accepted nothing else), now had the task to dress the zealous boy who had volunteered. 

She was intrigued, and perhaps a little bit sad that someone so young was so eager to shed blood. But really, Tigris was mostly nervous. It was her first time as a stylist, and she didn’t want to mess everything up. The Hunger Games were evolving, there were no more cages, no more mindless massacres that lasted a couple of days at the most. Now, tributes had to charm and entertain the audience. And she had to help them do just that.

“You’re Hannibal, right?” she asked as she walked into the room. “My name is Tigris, I’m your stylist.” She offered the kid a warm smile. He couldn’t be older than 16, and she felt sad all over again. 

“That means it’s my job to make sure you look amazing out there.” Not that she’d have a lot of work to do. The teenager was beautiful, perfectly dressed and combed. It wasn’t too surprising, coming from a District 1 tribute, but she found there was more to it than good education and fancy haircuts. There was an air of elegance in the shape of his jaw, the spark in his eyes. And yet, she sensed a sort of hunger too, a determination. In a strange way, the boy reminded her of her cousin. Except for his hair and eyes, which were dark.
