“I think a balance really needs to be present for everything!” she started, “If you focus on small details, you’ll never get everything done; but if you only focus on the bigger picture, then you’ll never ever perfect the necessary details. I like to think that I keep a good balance of the two. That’s really important in my career!”

Light locks of hair fell into her eyes when she averted her gaze to a window and remained silent for a bit. She doesn’t like talking about disagreement and she doesn’t like talking about fights. Chanhyun liked to think of herself as peaceful and she doesn’t want to recall yelling and screaming with tears streaming down her face and hours of her baby sister trying to calm her down. Fights are tiring; being angry is exhausting.

The twenty-five year old exhaled, closing her eyes and looking down------“The biggest fight I’ve ever had? It wasn’t too long ago, really. It’s not anything typical like a cat fight or something. I don’t like fighting with people... but the biggest fight took place about a month ago... it was with my parents,” she replied, tone tense. “We argued for hours without end about a promise that I made to them when I was younger. I got really worked up about how much I didn’t want to do it anymore and they scolded me------but, it’s not fair. I cried and shouted at them; I never thought I‘d ever do that in my life... I didn’t talk to them for three weeks, after that.

“Didn’t visit them, didn’t call them. I hardly even spoke to my sister, unless she came to me. For the first time in my life, I was glad to live away from them for a selfish reason and I felt terrible about it. They were angry with me when I apologized to them and returned home. We never actually found an even ground... I’m still doing what they want.”

A soft sigh, “But, they’re my parents. No matter how big of a fight, they’re still my family. How could I not forgive them, right?”

do you consider yourself an independent person? do you rely on people often?

“I would definitely say so. I sometimes live by the standards of other people, in other words my parents, simply because they’ve raised me until this day, but I do my own things, live on my own, make my own money and pay my own bills------I like the acknowledgement of being independent,” she replied. She’s grateful for the little things that built up to greater things, but it didn’t mean lack of independence. If anything, Chanhyun liked to think of herself as a standard of independence. “And as for relying on others... rarely. I prefer it when others rely on me------I’m always here to help and it makes me happy when others ask, so no to that one!”
