juniper was born in a clan where being courageous was the most important thing, and she just... wasnt. thats why she got kicked out, she wasnt as brave as the rest, she was being bullied and then they just.. made her leave. they prob only kept her around as long as they did because of her eyes- a whelp born with many eyes- primal or multigaze- is considered good luck in plague, especially primal. since its usually accompanied by bad infections while very young and heavy scarring later on, the kid is seen as a gift from the plaguebringer if they survive

luckily she was always a pretty good scavenger, she found food and supplies and such while she wandered. along the way she met river and found that her crippling anxiety wasnt as bad around her. they wandered til they found the clan, blah de blah they needed scavengers, etc etc home
