"Just don't forget me, okay?"

A light, playful pout forms on Gaeul’s lips the moment Soojung mumbles those words. They’re holding each other’s hands and swaying them from side to side, almost like children would do when they’re playing and, standing by Gaeul’s door, they are looking at each other, one unwilling to leave, the other unwilling to close the door. It’s a bit complicated to let go after a sleepover but what does Gaeul know about sleepovers anyway? They sigh almost in unison and it elicits a quiet giggle fit, their shoulders raising up in an attempt to suppress the sound bubbling up their throats. The older chuckles and, finally, after yet another squeeze for Soojung’s hands, she lets go. “I should be the one telling you this. Don’t forget to rest and eat properly!” Barely more words are exchanged and they crush each other in a bear hug, unwilling to let go of the other but the time has gone, and Gaeul thinks that it’s unfair how time passes by so fast when you’re with someone precious to you. She watches the younger walk down the hallway, waves and slowly closes the door. She is exaggerating because it’s definitely not the last time that they’re going to see each other but she finds herself unable to suppress this empty feeling that settles in her chest as she walks into the living room, proofs of their time spent together scattered all over her apartment.

"It’s a scary world out there."

The news are terrifying and for once, Gaeul doesn’t have the heart to be optimistic, too shocked by the headlines, by what people are able to do to other human beings just being they chose to. It sickens her and whenever she hears about people dying, she wants to run away, to disappear from this world where nobody learned from the previous conflicts and wars. She grasps Soojung’s hand, feeling the need to be reminded that she isn’t alone and when she feels a light squeeze, she lets out a breath she didn’t know she was holding. The world is terrifying, yes, and people are killing each other, yes, but there’s still this little flicker of hope inside of her, that the world will be eventually fine. For now, her little world is fine, she has Soojung by her side and other friends she cares for, and she brushes away the guilty feeling that creeps in her mind for being alive.

"What are you doing here? You should be in bed."

The sentence brings a childish pout on her face although she knows that Soojung is right. Her head is pounding, her nose is runny and her eyes puffy: she has gotten quite a bad cold and she has been sleeping for hours, so when she has stepped out in the living room of her apartment, she is both surprised to see there is Soojung sitting on her couch and that the sun is high up in the sky. She doesn’t remember calling her to come over but she certainly isn’t going to complain, having missed her way too much, so she waddles over to her, snuggled up in her thick blanket and lets herself collapse on the couch next to her friend.
