@darkbootsofblood asked :: “ Violet hues chase after Calera, darting back and forth across the room as she bustled around to gather her things " But, you just returned, Cal. Your injuries haven't fully healed yet. " Brows pinch together as she marches over, hand, gently resting over her friend's own to prevent her from heaving more supplies into the backpack. " Please, wait. " ”
Jostled at the touch of her friend, she forced her hand to still. A silent prayer given to God that her wounds would not be so painful as to betray her the moment she let herself stop. Nothing grave, nothing dangerous. Yet she feared Lena might have already clued into the way one of her shoulders was sitting lamer than the other. Torn, popped from its socket - she could not tell and the order had not cared to learn which. It was minor considering the grave state so many soldiers had returned in as of late, it wasn’t for her to concern herself with.
I don’t want you to worry about me as well.
A few breaths taken to calm her nerves before she turned to a soldier - a friend - who had gone to war in far worse of a state than she. And she smiled. Pulling her hand away from the other’s touch only long enough to place the loaded pack of medical supplies in a flap filled to the brim, yet organized to the point where she might be able to pull anything out she needed within a second’s notice ( if she managed to have that much time to react ). Letting the satchel drop with a thud onto the sheets of her bed as she reached out to clasp her hand in Lenalee’s. Gripping it tight - even as her smile betrayed the hint of a wince from her shoulder’s strain.
“ There’s nothing to wait for, Lena! ” Warmth made the bulk of her voice. Strong .. yet tinted with a sliver of resignation. For as much as the finder might try to show confidence - her friend wasn’t the only one concerned. “ I’ll - I’ll be just fine. If the nurses thought it best to release me for an assignment, then I should be good to go, right? ”
Was it really the nurses that gave their assent?
Her better arm reached over to pick up her pack. Setting the strap over her neck with practiced ease - fighting back a muted yelp the moment the weight tugged at her shoulder. Rocking her head back as if to ride the momentary wave of pain before she shook her head, reaching up to wipe aside strewn about locks of chestnut as she looked to Lenalee with a chuckle.
“ I’ll be home before you know it. I’ll even give you a message over my golem when I get there, if you’re really that worried. ”
Heaven knows I would be too.
